Brett Smith

...had a QB rating of 20.7 yesterday. I know the defense was bad, but the defense had nothing to do with the offense looking poor. Anyone know if Brett is hurt at all? Every QB is prone to struggling at times, but I haven't seen Brett play that badly since his early Freshman season. And against CSU's defense at that.

O-line was dominated again, recievers couldn't (or didn't?) get open, Smith was off, and the runningbacks couldn't find holes most of the time, and knowing Wick, who likes to run over people, even he couldn't get much going. And that's on the o-line. Because the few times the o-line did open a hole, Wick got good yards and kept his motor running like he usually does.

The defense, well, Mertens and Yarbrough wanted to play. But the rest? Didn't really show up.

Blair Burns looked awful all day, Wacha tried but it wasn't enough, Wick disappeared, but my biggest complaint was Herron dropping sure huge yardage plays, where is he???
Brett will be ok, he just needs time to throw the ball, as long as they can catch it, like my dad always said growing up, you can touch it you can catch it, for the most part!!!!

Drops and ball security have been a problem with Herron since the day he set foot on campus. It was looking like he had it cleaned up, but that obviously is not the case.

To defend Herron, he had to wait on a couple of those passes. And, when the pass arrived, so did the CSU db. Brett needed to put a little more on his long throws Saturday.

A QB is only as good as his blockers and receivers. That was one of the problems with the entire offense Saturday! There was absolutely zero blocking! Every offensive player shied away from contact. As far as the defense goes, Brett Smith made a better textbook tackle off of that turnover, than I saw the entire defense make all afternoon! When your QB has more drive and heart in making a tackle than your entire defense, you cannot win games. Lastly, the receiver's coach needs to slather Robert Herron's hands with pine tar, or Stick 'Em, or something that will help him catch a ball that hits both hands. For those who defend him, he also dropped a beautiful, wide-open TD pass last week against UNM. As I have said before regarding MANY wide-outs, "All that speed is useless, if you can't catch the damn ball." I love my Cowboys, but with the way our wheels have come off over the past few weeks, I don't foresee us winning another game. Nope. Not even a win against Hawaii. Their 0-6 record is an fluke, given their strength of schedule. Their schedule has been brutal. And besides, win or lose, Hawaii plays with heart.......something Wyoming desperately lacks at this point. Here's to another disappointing 4-win season!

This reminds me of the movie "The Replacements." They had the receiver who couldn't catch a cold and they finally put some "foreign substance" on his hands and he caught everything. "Coach, this isn't natural, it look like I jacked off an elephant!"

Definitely worried about the play of both Herron and Claiborne. They dissappear for long stretches of time and when they do appear they drop the ball or fumble it. I love both guys as players but they need to get tougher. I've never questioned the toughness of Ruffran, Wick or Brett. I guess thats why they are perhaps our best offensive players. Christensen admitted that he should of went to the ground game more and I believe when we start slow offensively it because we didnt start off running the ball. It gets the O line lathered up and takes the pressure off Brett. When we established the run early in games we tend to win. Time to follow the game plans that worked earlier in the season.
