Wyoming's Brett Smith Named One of Manning Award "Stars of the Week"

Cowboy Fans May Vote for Smith as Manning Award Player of the Week

Vote For Brett Here

On Monday, Wyoming sophomore quarterback Brett Smith was selected by the Manning Award as one of its nine "Stars of the Week". That makes Smith eligible for this week's Manning Award Player of the Week, which is determined by fan voting.

Wyoming fans may go online at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for Smith.

Voting is open from Monday through Thursday at 10 a.m., Mountain Time each week. The top vote-getter will then be announced as the Manning Award Player of the Week.

It sounds crazy to say, but is Brett Smith the greatest Wyoming player ever? (in terms of what he means to the team)

I have watched/listened to just about every game since the Josh Wallwork to Marcus Harris hookup days and I can't think of anyone that compares/has such a huge impact as a single player on the game. The only players that come to mind in the WAC/MWC are Bradlee Van Pelt and Brian Urlacher. I've watched a lot of D2 RMAC football and the only guys I can think of are Chad Friehauf and Danny Woodhead.

Is that Manning the Payton one they are talking about? He hasn't looked so hot for the Broncos so far.
Archie, Peyton, Eli, and Connor. The whole famdamily runs that academy.

With all due respect, I believe this kind of talk is far too premature. There have been some great Cowboys through the years that have won a lot of games and have left their mark, I think what you maybe trying to say is that Smith's presence on the field, may be much more important than a lot of players, but I also believe it's inherent within his position of QB. Everything we do offensively runs through Brett Smith, just as it runs through Fajardo at Nevada, or Carr at FSU. It might be amplified more so at Wyoming because at this point, Smith has no run game whatsoever to help with the overall offensive load. I think those other teams take a significant hit as well if those playmakers were out for any period of time at Nevada and FSU. Probably wouldn't notice as much at New Mexico or Boise State.

Having said this, I do maintain like I always have from day 1, that if he stays healthy, he has the opportunity to be the most productive QB in Wyoming history, which would be cool to see but I'm sure he would rather take winningnest QB in history and for that he needs a ways to go. Que J-Rod in 3...2...and..........1.... :P
