Bowl Payouts

I was just surprised to read that the New Mexico Bowl pays $750,000 and the Armed Forces Bowl only pays $600,000. With Air Force finishing above us, wouldn't it make sense for them to choose the New Mexico Bowl? The thought bums me out because I'm quite fired up for the Pokes to go to Albuquerque!
Here's the link where I found the payouts:

Anyone have any insight into the process?

The payouts go to the MWC to distribute among teams. I doubt AF really loses any money going to the Armed Forces Bowl over the New Mexico bowl.

Seeing how the academy is almost entirely funded by your & my tax dollars...well...you see my point. Maybe the (and any) bowl money they earn each year should be funneled back to us taxpayers?

PS I have the utmost respect for the armed services, all of them.

I don't think Air Force (or anyone else for that matter) gets to choose, they can only say yes on no to whatever bowl invites them. Do bowls invite teams that have other invitations pending? Don't know how much it matters anyway, anything you make over and above your expenses gets shared with the rest of the conference anyway. They would get the same piece of the extra $150k regardless of if it's them or Wyoming who actually earns it.
