Border War part deux....

With Boise and Wyoming still having to travel to the ugliest basketball arena in America, this game will have a huge impact on the conference title.

This is a massive opportunity for our Cowboys.

Go Pokes. Beat the sheep. Will the next "Mayor of Fort Collins" please stand up?

We need Jeffries to break out of his shooting slump. Dusell was 2-9 today. We can't beat a good team on the road unless we start shooting better than a grade school team from 3. This game is very winnable. We will get a lot of open looks against csewe. Hopefully, the shooting slump ends.

I guess I'm not really concerned about shooting. It's streaky. You'll go through stretches of every season where it goes away. You go through stretches where you can't seem to miss. We've got a lot of very good outside shooters. It will come around.

The first game CSU had a pretty good answer for Ike, but that left Maldonado to back their smaller guards down and kill CSU. I'm sure Niko will have an adjustment for Maldo like an immediate double team when he gets close to the post. That should leave Oden open for back door cuts and our shooters open to hit some shots. We'll see if the focus on stopping Maldonado will open up the post a bit for Graham. I think it will be very important to move the ball out of double teams QUICKLY and rotate it to the open shooter/cutter. Oden could have a huge game at the back door.

It's hard to shoot on the road. We've won more difficult road games with defense than anything else. CSU struggles with length. They struggle with rebounding against long teams. I think we can exploit that again in Fort Collins. We need to win the rebounding margin. We need to suffocate their shooters. I think we'll be all right as long as we can limit their outside shots. The key to the game for me is CSU's 3 point percentage, not ours. They got hammered tonight in Vegas because they couldn't hit the deep ball.

We'll need to play great defense to win this one. There's no way around that. Shooting.... it would be nice to get hot in Moby, but I don't think it's a death sentence if we don't. We can win there without shooting well as long as we keep them from shooting well and we win the possession battle with rebounds and turnovers.

This should be a fun one. There was a lot on the line for the first Border War game. There's even more on the line now with Wyoming and Boise still having to go to Moby.

Bring on the Sheep.

Regardless one thing is always certain: It sucks to be a CSU Ram, in case they didn't know, thanks Rebels for showing us this again!!!

Old bull said it. Whatever team hits their threes will prevail.should be a close game

Actually, that's not at all what I said. I said defense wins road games, not 3 point shooting.

If we win its because we keep CSU from shooting well, not because we shot it well ourselves.

Need this win.

KenPom has the Pokes at 49 (BYU is at 52 which is the real BS). The real BS is SDSU 23 and rated higher than Boise 25, and CSU at 40. I don’t see the MW getting more than 3 in the NCAA tourney. UW is going to be outside looking in if they don’t win some games for an at large, or win the MW outright.

Yep also our Net ranking took a significant hit this week. We had a Q3 loss to New Mexico and a Q4 win against Air Force. But then also our Stanford loss dropped from a Q2 loss now to a Q3 loss as well, and our CSU win dropped from a Q1 win back to a Q2. All this led our Net ranking to drop 14 spots from 25 to now 39. We are now 4th in conference in Net behind Boise, CSU, and SDSU.

All this is to say winning at CSU which is our last Q1 game of the year would go a long way to getting an at large bid.

Three point shooting has been concerning me for a few games now.

vs. Air Force - 17.6%
@ New Mexico - 33.3%
@ San Jose State - 29.2%
vs. Utah State - 31.6%
@ Fresno State - 24%
vs. Boise State - 30.8%

That's six games in a row under our current season average of 34.7%. That's not a streak, that's a pattern. If we can't hit the three it makes life MUCH easier on opposing defenses. They just pack the paint and let us throw up bricks all game.
