Black 14 event Friday at College of Law

In conjunction with Homecoming, the College of Law will be hosting an event regarding the Black 14 this Friday. Details from the poster for the event:

"The Black 14: Race, Religion and Free Speech in Laramie, WY"

Friday, October 11

College of Law Room 178

11:-12:00: Brunch

12:00 Noon: Presentation

"Please join members of the Black 14 and other student activists for a group discussion about the Black 14 at the College of Law."

____

I do not know much about this event, as this is not the College of Law's event per se. Instead, we were asked to host it, and we are happy to do so, but I cannot give you specifics. However, I thought some here might be interested in attending. The event is free and open to the public.

BTW, the College of Law is just west of the Arena Auditorium. Parking is awful here these days. My recommendation is to plan a bit of extra time, then park in a metered space in the Union lot and walk to the law school.

I'll certainly try to make it to this. I'd love to know more about this point in Wyoming history. Should be a very interesting symposium.

Black 14 The rise, fall, and rebirth of Wyoming Football by Ryan Thorburn ISBN 978-0-9777318-9-3. This is a pretty good read on the events.

I own a copy of that book. Great read! I would be curious to hear what some of the people involved have to say in person, though.

in all the time i knew him, i don't even recall him discussing college football....let alone the cowboys

Mel Hamilton went to high school at Boy's Town in Omaha. Home was Willmington, NC.

And he ran the summer school program I went to in high school

Anyone know where the AD was when this shit assed event went down? That says a lot.
wait....so you're for or against it?

I hate the fact it "happened" as it did, entirely and completely, for many reasons, on many fronts. And I think if the AD had been around, things may have gone differently.

Rest in peace, Lloyd Eaton, you were raked over the coals unceremoniously back then, and far too many rake you to this day.

You did the right thing, sir, you have my ultimate respect, I wish I could have shook your hand.

Team first.

Always.

You heard the request.

You made your decision as the leader of your football team.

You would not put up with insubordination -- and for this I applaud you even as you have passed on.

A great man was Head Coach, Lloyd Eaton.
