Berg and Perez gone

LB Berg and C Perez will not return. Harris and Mertens granted a 6th year. So who was the poster claiming we would have a "mass exodus" from the receiver position. Got to love insiders. *OK, I just went and found his post and he did say it would come after spring ball, my bad.

Berg to transfer, but nothing on Perez. Though Perez kind of dissapeared mid way through the season, with an illness if I remember. Sucks that Berg is transferring, but whatever.

Good that Harris and Mertens get that 6th year, gives us much needed experience for the defense at least.

Bummer that Berg is transferring. He showed a lot of promise when he got here, but it just never showed on the field. I hope he does where wherever he goes.

Perez is a puzzling one. I wonder what the deal is there?

Realistically, this might be the least amount of attrition for a football coaching change at Wyoming that I can remember. Losing a back up quarterback, a back up center, and a lb buried down the depth chart is not that bad. You have to figure there's going to be attrition, but this is nothing really.

In addition, we get Harris and Mertens back. If you would have asked me three months ago if I would trade Thompson, Berg, and Perez for Mertens and Harris I would have said "yes please".

I believe that we would have seen MORE attrition had DC stayed on as coach.

We typically saw quite a bit more than this in an average year under DC, but...it's early. Still could be plenty of attrition at the end of spring semester.

Seemed like Perez was in DCs doghouse this year at times.. his playing time was all over the map, less as the season went on.

Perez just had a hell of a time adapting to life Iin Laramie. He was never truly sick, j :brick: ust homesick. From what i heard he thought he couldnt play in a power blocking scheme because of his lack of size. It's too bad because i believe he could've been good, he just didnt believe in his skills. He could've had a free education anyways. I just don't understand kids values about a free education nowadays.

Yeah, but that wont be the initial hiring attrition. That will be normal program attrition.

For Bohl to hang on to all but three guys is remarkable really. It shows how much the guys are buying in already.

Maybe after spring practice starts? I'll be curious too. I wonder how many bail before it even starts?

Gotta prune that tree.

The answer to that question is simple: three. Smith left for the draft so I don't count him. The three players that didn't enroll in school this semester and that aren't coming back are Thompson(back up qb), Perez(back up center) and Zack Berg (3rd string linebacker). Aside from that, everyone is here and ready to go.

We might lose some at a later date, but right now we made it through a coaching change only losing three players.

Yeah, you're right That's not much attrition at all. Good. Hopefully, all will buy into the new system.

I did say look for a mass exodus in the WR position but it wasn't based on any "insider" tip as you have claimed. It is simply my gut feeling that the current receivers will not want to block instead of catch passes. In this style of offense a WR is not a highlighted player and that is what most of them came to Wyoming for. If they would have wanted to play in a Pro style offense they would have looked at different schools.

I think what we are seeing is players who think there will be a fresh set of eyes in the front office to re-evaluate talent. I really believe that many of the players have their hopes elevated right now with a new staff. After all it is a new chance to impress the coaches who hopefully have unbiased eyes. My position is, and always has been that, players will bail after spring practice if they fell like they won't fit into Coach Bohl's scheme. We will see.

You guys make it seem like we are going to turn into Air Force or New Mexico and never pass. Run first is not the same as run only. WRs will still need to catch passes, our QB will still need to make throws.

WR primary job will be to block ie. seal the edge. Our receivers are used to way more targets than they will ever get under Bohl... They won't like it I promise. It is a work like mentality that they have not had in highschool or college.

Did you watch any of NDSU's games? Yeah, it was run first, but they still aired it out quite a bit.

NDSU was about 50/50 on how they gained their yardage. WR's will play a big roll in the offense.
