Been thinking about future schedules

Why couldn't we "host" a big name program over at the new Mile High Stadium in Denver? It would help attendance and get more alumni in central Colorado to want to see Wyoming in person in years we don't go to Fort Fart or Colorado Springs.

Like a Wyoming vs. Iowa in 2017 in a 20 year anniversary of the 1987 Holiday Bowl which we should've won btw.

I'm sure its easier said than done, but that is a fantastic idea. UNLV just got their game with Arizona moved to University of Phoenix Stadium......surely someone would come to Denver? It doesn't have to be Alabama (who oddly enough will play @Colorado State in 2014), it could be someone like Iowa as you referenced....low to mid-tier BCS school....Wyoming vs. Texas Tech....something like that.

If we host, then we need to pay for the use of the stadium. Do you think we could even get 30K Wyo fans to show in Denver for a mid tier BCS school? Speaking of which, you better hope whoever you get (Iowa) brings about 20K or your sitting in and paying for a half empty stadium.
I don't even think the Colorado schools would even find that feasible.

Not to say the same crap over and over but, if we are a winning program we could do it.
This year we would get like 8k. But let's say we pull off a lot of undefeated and 1 loss seasons like Boise has, and we could get 25-30.
And people who say we can't even get that many fans in Laramie aren't realizing the fact that a team that starts having winning seasons like that will pick up an insane amount of bandwagon fans.

So a wyo vs decent BCS school could definitely be a huge game if we were a good team. Look at Boise vs. Vatech. Boise vs. Oregon. And Plenty more Boise games I can't remember right now

To me this is a very bad idea, the only way that would change is if we were consistently selling out our home games. Playing at Sports Authority Field with 20k would look bad for us as a program, we need at least 60k for it to not look bad, and frankly we can't do that at the moment.

Not true. Under Roach we were avging 20 to 22K a year. That's when we were good. Late 90's, starting in 96, Wyo goes 10-2, we avg 18K; 8-5, we avg 19K; 8-3, we avg 17K; and 7-4, we avg 18K. Even when we are winning fans rarely show. The 19K in 97 was only helped by our record sellout of 34,175 against CSU. All other games where in the upper to mid teens of thousands.
Yes, I'm sure if we started having a miracle of only 1 loss seasons we may start bringing in those bandwagon fans who will up the numbers a bit. Maybe instead of 20-21K we might have an avg of 23-25K. But even then, it's a question. And all those factors that were talked about in another thread play a huge role. Friday H.S football teams traveling. Those families get home late, their not getting up to drive all the way to Laramie.
Lot's of families hunt. And when thats the case, you mostly get weekend hunters. Some just choose not to travel a 200-400+ mile round trip. An the big factor...If weather is bad Very, very few will travel that distance for the game. On top of that. Laramie may have 30K and Cheyenne 55K but still of all those who choose to take in a football game that are close, it doesn't mean a huge attendance. From what I've noticed the Pass between Laramie and Cheyenne cuts off a vast majority. Elk Mountain on the other side cuts off practically the rest of the state. Of all the able bodied football going Wyo fans in Laramie, I would say their are probably 5 to 8K living in Laramie (Counting students). The rest are older and would prefer not to be in the elements or they just don't care about Cowboy football "that much". I base this number off of games I've seen when weather has closed the roads in to Laramie. They may state the tickets sold attendance, but you can very well see maybe 5-8K at the game, if that at times.
On top of that, the vast majority of Wyo alum do not stay around the area. They go back home or just move away. That is one reason as to why Wyoming "travels" so well. We have fans spread out all over the country. But are not going to drive or fly every other weekend to Laramie to take in a game. Just like me. I live in Kansas. 700 miles one way. I'm lucky to make it to one game a year. Attendance will always be a question until Laramie and Cheyenne grow...Mostly Laramie. If the majority of Alums stayed in Wyoming, you would see the attendance rise.

I think that Wyo needs to gain popularity in northern Colorado to gain fans.
Somehow get fans from Foco.
It's a big population center and it is close.
Yeah, I know CSU is there.
But as Wyo fans have learned over the past 100 years, no one wants to travel to go to games so screw the people that don't wanna drive far and let's try and steal Foco fans from CSU.

Or......someone who actually cares about the program working in media for UW, can listen to my idea and get fucking busses going from all over the state!

Wyo wants fans to show up to games.
Wyo has fans, but they don't like to drive all day, spend all that money, etc.
Get busses, so they don't have to drive and they can enjoy the whole trip.

CU and CSU struggle filling that stadium and both schools have hundreds of thousands of alumni within 30 minutes. Bad idea.

We just need to schedule teams and beat them in Wyoming.

I'd love to hear your ideas on how a school steals fans from it's rival's hometown. Then if that works, I'll elect you president and you can solve all our problems.

Yeeeaaaaaah...I wasn't being serious about that at all. I guess the sarcasm didn't travel well over the internet.

Beaver, your homerism is so out there that its really hard to know when you're actually joking. :P

Lol at this point, I rarely even say that homerish crap, but the legend feeds itself. I said homerish stuff before, then I was known for it, and ever since then, I haven't said all that much unless it is joking (LITB jokes.)

But yeah when I said "screw the rest of the fans in the state" people should have known that it was not serious.
