Interesting article in the Loveland Reporter-Herald regarding CSU's Basketball Scheduling: http://www.reporterherald.com/sports/ci_28088332/eustachy-still-stung-by-ncaa-snub-unsure-new
I really don't care about Eustachy's whining, however I thought this part was very interesting:
This supports Coach Shyatt's comments on the topic as Wyoming is in the same scenario. CSU does have the advantage of keeping the CU series, but other than that they are in the same boat.
Beyond that, what happened to CSU last year has changed my thinking on scheduling. I understand their perspective of trying not to overreact and continue to do what they have done by scheduling quality opponents from lower leagues. I harped on this many times in the past year with my belief that Shyatt needed to do a better job of following this format (more Montana, less Montana State, etc.), but what did it bring CSU? A whole steaming plate of nothing.
If the committee is going to remain more impressed by names rather than consistently beating quality opponents and if SJSU is going to remain in the MWC, than why bother challenging yourself with potentially dangerous OOC opponents like Georgia State, when you can pound Florida A&M and not risk a potential loss. Just schedule a couple of road beatings at Duke, Kentucky, etc. and eat your cupcakes. Tim Miles rode that formula to an undeserved NCAA bid in 11-12. There is no way that CSU's 11-12 team had a better resume than their 14-15 team (for reference, Pomeroy had that 11-12 team as the 95th best team in the country). But, they got their ass kicked at Duke and they didn't have SJSU dragging down the conference RPI.
The problem is that I am not the only one noticing the committee's behavior. While the "dangerous, quality lower level opponents" from our perspective might be a team like Georgia State or Montana, to teams in the P5 leagues, the equivalent is...well, us.
Enjoy the Cal game in the AA this winter. It might be the last P5 team we see in the AA for a long time.

As far as setting up a home-and-home series with an established program from a power five conference, Eustachy said that simply isn't going to happen anytime soon. He said he can't even get a two- or three-for-one.
