B12 rejected Memphis offer of $200 million

We are clearly in the midst of a split. The stark reality is that the Big XII is second tier to the SEC/BIG juggernaut. It is past time for the Pac/MW/AAC/MAC/Sun Belt to realize we have a lot more in common with NDSU, South Dakota State, and Big Sky teams than even the Big XII, ACC, and certainly SEC and BIG.

The SEC/BIG are the nucleus of a new tier. I believe that some of the teams currently in those conferences will also fall out eg. Vandy, Miss. State, Northwestern, Purdue. A select few in the Big XII and Norte Dame will move into the new tier. Wyoming I fear is fated to be in the third tier. At least I hope we can remain there but until the money is sorted out, nothing is sure.

Where would this $250 million come from?

Is the State of Tennessee allowing state funds to be used for this? Does the Memphis athletic department just have an extra $250 million lying around? Would this be paid for by private donors? Who would be subsidizing the athletics department for the next 4-5 years while they have agreed to receive no revenue from the Big 12 conference?

I have so many questions about this.

This is absolutely correct. My question is: does the abject greed in the SEC and BIG foreclose irrelevance for any team not in their orbit (or nucleus, to steal your phrase)? They can never have enough and will gut shoot anyone that stands in the way of their controlling and rigging everything for their advantage. Ultimately, I think that strategy backfires because they are leaving out so many teams and fan bases, so they just can never close the final gap to control market-share and are angering the "also-rans" to the point that I won't watch the SEC anymore (I know, I am a pimple on an elephant's butt, but there are others like me).
