B.R. Top 25 QBs

Yeah, that one made me scratch my head. Guarantee any intelligent UNL fan would rather have Brett at QB, and I've had several agree with me.

Yeah, the game at the War during Brett's Freshmen year against them, heard several say they wished they had Brett over Martinez (a RB who can throw the ball).

I would have Smith ahead of Derek Carr. Carr, unlike Smith, absolutely shits his pants under pressure. Every top D-Line Fresno faced last season kicked his sorry ass. He has happy feet to the max.....Smith has proven time and time again he can succeed even with poor protection.

I'm still on the fence on the Carr vs. Smith debate. I certainly think they are both Top 25 QBs, and I think they are both very close to each other in a true ranking. I agree that Smith is much better in a scramble or a breakdown, but Carr is extremely effective when he gets time (as we personally saw this year) and his arm is better than Brett's as well.

If you put Carr behind our OL, he would be exposed pretty badly, on the flip side, if you put Brett behind Fresno's OL I think he would be better but not remarkably.

Carr has been, for every second of his career, Timmy Chang with a much better defense. Awesome against teams with no defense, bad against good defenses, and horrific against great ones. Crazy enough.....he's very similar to his older brother, who essentially had the same issues in both college and the pros. I expect the same this year.....he'll put up unreal numbers most of the time, but find himself on the ground against the good defenses. Not necessarily his fault, but he has developed happy feet thanks to his awful O-Line.

I'm a total homer obviously so seeing Keaton and Carr and Fajita and Taylor Martinez and really everyone but Johnny Football and Braxton Miller above B.Smith is a joke.

If he stays healthy this year, B-Smith will win the MWC POY.

I have to disagree......Carr has already won the award....as long as he doesn't bomb, its his. Just the way things work unfortunately.

Hmm...good point. It will probably come down to who wins that game, Wyo vs. Fresno. Or maybe Boise State considering they could always bounce back again. If they are carried by a QB or a RB.

I think no matter what, the MWC POY comes from the championship team whether it is Wyo, Fresno St., or Boise.
I don't see Nevada being where they were last season. And what about sdsu?

The award always seems to be played out before the season even happens. Carr is expected to be a high draft pick in 2014, that for whatever reason will get him the votes needed. Winning won't have a ton to do with it....The MWC co-champ with the best record was BSU, and Southwick didn't win anything. Although, he did improve dramatically at the seasons end. There are a lot of good QBs in the MWC, but these postseason awards always seem to go to the media darling....

J-Rod, going into last season every article I read said that B-Smith was the best QB in the conference.
I think that if we finish with 8-10 gmes, not saying we will but if we do, we all know it is gonna be because of Brett Smith.

I agree sometimes it isn't about stats it is about hype.

The board homer strikes again. :P ;) Next season will be very interesting for UW....IMO, 8 wins is the best case scenario, and very possible. But I'm leaning towards more 7-5 or 6-6. Can't drink too much of the kool-aid, the defense is still one of the nations worse and Smith has proven he can only do so much. The lack of protection and a running game will continue to a persistent issue too....but I do think this is a bowl team, even if just barely.

Haha, okay in all honesty to my homerism, it's not that I think we are a GREAT team, but I think the MWC is weak...like you and I talked about our home games, we should go 5-1 at very worst.
Teams like Texas St. Idaho, and Northern Colorado should all be wins. Hawaii CSU and NM should all be wins.

I think we have a weak schedule. Our hard teams are Boise, Nebraska, and Fresno.

I just look at other teams football teams, whether it is high school or college or nfl, and if you have a good QB, you can win a lot of games.

Here are my takes on all of this. I actually think it is possible to win 10 this year, however the d would have to be much better, the only reason I think that is because the schedule is very weak. POY will go to whatever team wins the conference so if we were to do it Brett would, but if we don't he definately wont. As far as Martinez goes I don't agree he should be number 9 but I would not argue about a top 25 qb in the nation. I watched him a lot last year and he came leaps and bounds in his throwing ability and was actually a pretty good passer. He is not on the level of the other qbs but I think that with him vastly improving his passing ability along with his threat to run he is probably a top 25 qb. I see UW winning inbetween 6-10 games this year, with many variables causing anywhere inbetween those numbers like health, weak schedule, and the improvement or not of the defense.

I'm all for optimism.....but sorry, that's just a bit much. I'm always looking for the objective opinion.....most non-Wyoming fans think the team is a fringe bowl candidate. Which is about right.....come on now, lets be real....they did go 4-8 last season. Best looking win: New Mexico? The team will improve, but not dramatically.

I hope Brett does well on his own and because his teammates are doing well too.
The countdown had a 2nd group of 25 QBs to watch.
I am probably going to be watching Texas Tech as much as possible because I am close to someone who is a Red Raider.............now you can barf.

SMU's Margus Hunt tore up Derek Carr in the Hawai'i Bowl.

Fajardo and Pachall? Really?

Pachall is amazing. Had he not gotten his DUI, and left the team, TCU would have been much better. They can compete in the Big12 with that kid.
I think he is going to be a really good NFL qb.
He reminds me of Tyler Wilson, who I think is amazing. Until Arkansas took a huge hit this season.
I think Tyler Wilson is gonna be the best QB in the draft this season, and won't be drafted for a couple rounds, but will be some teams Russel Wilson. Earn the starting job and amaze people.

Pachall made the news the other day for being in spring practise with tcu.
He is supposed to compete with the guy that took over from him for the starting job.
