alot of people picking csu to finish higher than us

Some sports writers(but not many), and the entire fanbase over at the mountain west forum site... are predicting csu to have a better conference record than the pokes.

I know we are homers. and I know that deep down inside everyone of us expect us to sweep csu every year. We just hate losing to them that much...

but i watched csu play cu. and i know that it was played in boulder, but there were a ton of csu fans at that game. I also realize that csu had a poor shooting night.

However, I see us pounding them. Their big... coulter( or conrade, or something with a c) is a liability. he moves like shawn bradley without the extra inches. We have had bigs like him before. a guy that was recruited for size but not ability.

Its frustrating when sports writers and fanbases make predictions about wyoming without have seen any game tape. Larry, Leonard, Ryan are very capable of great post defense.

The thing about wyoming, we have a low rebounding output... but i would be interested to see a stat about how many rebounds we get in comparison to how many actual rebounding opportunities develop over the course of our game. meaning our style of offense and defense produce less rebounding opportunities because wyoming puts up fewer bad shots and holds the opposition to fewer shots taken. How are we rebounding on average over the amount of shots taken per game?

I see a misnomer on that stat. I think this is one of the hidden reasons we are undefeated.

another reason, and it hit me today like a ton of bricks. we have a coach that truely understands coaching at elevation. with McClain, his idea was to run and shoot... fast break the hell out of the opponent. but this honestly is the exact opposite of what we need to be doing. When we have the ball, if we run the court and take a shot in the first 10 seconds of shot clock, all we did was force the opponent to defend for 10 seconds... then they have the ball and can rest with their possession.

but with a grinding movement offense that moves the ball for 20 seconds per possession, you are forcing them to defend twice as long.

then once the second half starts, they start to break down, then we start applying more fast break points and going on runs, building our lead... demorilizing the opponent.

Absolutely I think the AA is going to return to dominance. shyatt is using terrain to his advantage. dominate defensively, make the opponent work for everything, make them defend for the max amount of time, and wait for their legs to quiver.

I think we can handle almost anybody at home as long as we stick to the game plan.

Got to disagree on csu big Iverson, he averages 15/9. I would not call that a liability, thats damn good production imo.

It's really hard to tell when I look at the CU vs CSU break down this is what I see.

So maybe CSU had a bad shooting day, Now if you compare our game with CU to CSU game with CU you can clearly see we live on the line. We force turnovers and apparently we shoot the ball pretty damn good.

Hard to compare off just statistics I know but even if CU would have brought that same game that beat CSU we still would have beat them. Unless they managed to get to the line as many times against us as CSU but I just don't see that happening with the slow ball we play.

As always I refuse to predict anything so I'm just going to say I think when you come to the AA you are going to struggle and as long as Martinez is hitting on all cylinders we will be a hard team to beat.

People know that leonard will get his points and he is the leader of this team. When people talk about larry nance they say he is the x factor or the hidden reason we are good and I disagree. He always has big games. He isn't the x-factor. Luke Martinez will be able to make this team lose the first nit game or literally win the ncaa championship because how streaky he gets. If he goes 0-10 from 3 in a few games, we might only make the nit. If he gets hot and hits 5-7 in the mwc tourney and ncaa tourney, literally we could win everything this season.
DISCLAIMER: before every starts arguing with me, I am not predicting us to win the ncaa tourney, I'm just saying that Luke is our ultimate x factor because of his 3 point shooting, and his D is amazing too.

Agreed 100% I've watched the last ucsb @ wyo game a few times when nothing is one and he has quick hands some of those steals he pulls off. He was cold on 3's in that game until the 2nd half when things started coming together but I completely agree Martinez is absolutely the key to our success.

I have watched CSU about 4 times this year. Colton Iverson is CSU's big guy and he is decent but he will get dominated down low against Washington and Nance. I have watched every team in the MWC multiple times this year and the only team that has big guys that can match up with Wyoming is UNLV.

On the other hand San Diego St. and New Mexico have great guard play. Better than Wyoming's.

I think Wyoming has a great chance to go unbeaten at home this year. It will come down to how they do on the road in conference play.

Really I don't see why people get in arguments over this kind of stuff on the MWC board or any board because the reality is that every team has to play every team twice so we will all know how it ends up after they play each other so it's pointless to argue because we will all see the results. Wyoming may end up winning the league or they may end up finishing 6th.

We will all know one way or another for sure so there won't be any arguing at the end of the season. I prefer to let people on the MWC board think we suck and then they will be shocked when they play us and find out we are a lot better than they think.

This. Almost put up or shut up time......some teams will earn their respect, others will go home with a crow dinner in hand. Conference play will be a dog fight.....or at least everyone hopes so.
