Adam Barry, the 3-star QB prospect from California (rated No. 61 in the nation by Scout.com) just committed to play for Wyoming next year.

Here's the link: http://wyoming.scout.com/2/711553.html to the story I wrote about him on CowboyBlitz.com.

I think this is the best recruit of the '08 class so far...and probably the best one we'll get period. The guys out in California that I've talked to about him say he may be better than a lot of the really highly-recruited prospects down there in So. Cal. I don't know why more schools didn't go after him, but I think he'll fit nicely into Bob Cole's new offense, and Glenn told him that he has a shot at the starting job next season. He told me things are wide open right now, and they'll let him know later in the spring whether or not they'll redshirt him.

Welcome aboard, CB!

So Barry.. is he a running QB or a pocket QB? Seems like Cole wants a running QB if he's going to be spread option.

Thanks. Good to be on "board." You've got a nice site here, by the way.

Barry, by his own admission, is primarily a pocket passer. I don't think he's as mobile as Zach Rasmussen, the other main QB prospect we were looking at, but he does like the spread offense. He was excited about that. I've only seen a few highlights of him, but he seems to have a decent arm. His team was undefeated at home this year but had a losing record on the road...not sure how much you can read into that.

Any word yet on whether Hetrick is out of here? Been hearing a lot of rumors that he wants to leave, and he never did meet with Cole when he was up here. That would take one less man out of the equation for the starting job next season--although from what I saw this year at practice and games, I'd have to say Stutzriem has a better shot at stealing the job from Sween anyway.

I wish Barry could play in the spring...I think that could really shake things up at the QB spot. Coaches say he has a shot at stealing the job, but if Sween or Stutriem looks solid in spring ball, it will be tough for Barry to come in at the beginning of the summer and do enough in three months to earn the job.

So you have to wonder, will they let Barry push for the starting spot this year, or will they redshirt him? The Cowboys have a lot invested in Sween right now, and I'd think it's his job to lose, but this Barry guy seems to be the real deal. I'm sure the Cowboy coaching staff is thrilled about this one. Nothing seems to have developed on the Hetrick front, but the only place he could go is FCS. Either way, Sween is definitely on the hot seat this year. Barry redshirting would be the best option right now, I think.. let him see what the college football world is like, and get caught up to the speed of the game.

merry xmas to the cowboys, this is an early xmas present and i'm glad someone can back up all the hype i've had on this kid! haha
I just got a scout.com account just to see this kid's film (and I was planning on it anyway)
Amazing to see his deep ball and how he punishes defenders when he does scramble..by watchin his film I've notice he has NO protection...yet seems to make plays..whether out of gun or I..

Yeah, that should fit into our offensive scheme...

Oh, and good call on getting that Scout.com subscription, by the way. :D Always a nice choice...

I also think it would be best to redshirt him this year. We're going to have 3-4 quarterbacks who are all developing next year, and with Barry not being able to make it out to Laramie until June, he would probably benefit more as a player were he to sit next year out. In fact, I don't think the coaches will consider starting him unless all three of the other guys look horrible in spring ball...but we'll see.

ya, i'm liking it... my name on their is cowboyfromhell23..

Actually, I see him starting right away.. I do like his attitude on it, but I know one of the assistant recruiters for the 'boys and he told me that Barry is a better qb as a true frosh as Karsten is 3years into it..better all around..bigger arm, better on the run (cuz his OL in h.s. sucked so he's really good at throwing on the run and off the back foot and making something out of nothing) He also told me that theres no doubt in the coach staff's mind that Barry will be at the helm next season..he's just that good. When they offered him, they pretty much told him he'd start.

Sween has no lead on anything. He had a terrible season in 07' and we have a new system to learn. The position is as much Barry's as it is Sween's. Like dapokes, I also see the Freshman getting the nod.

It is exciting to talk about the QB controversy at least. We need to shake it up a bit, I am glasd to have someone else in the mix with talent. Could be the answer we have been looking for.
