Aaron Bohl nominated for award

This is almost unbelievable.

If I can find contact info, I will reach out to the AFCA to see if they can clarify how they came to this decision. I would love to hear the mental gymnastics they perform to back this "award" up.
 
My only guess would be there are not very many D1 head coaches or coordinators under 35, so he is in there by default. I will give him this, he's much less of an asshole than his old man.
 
Quick Google search shows that of the 35, there are 0 D1 head coaches (1 Assistant HC) and only 6 D1 coordinators on the list. Only 21 of the names are of the D1 FBS level.

What a fair list then.

Kenny Dillingham is 34. He just led Arizona State, picked last in the Big 12, to a Big 12 championship and college football playoff appearance.

Yes - Aaron Bohl must be more deserving than Dillingham.
 
I was going to say, I think Dillingham would be the shoe-in for this award. But couldn't remember if he was 34 or 36.
 
Dillingham might be in the running for national coach of the year and he is NOT on this list? Aaron Bohl must be a great coach if he is on it while the ASU coach is not.

It seems like this organization is more "up and comer" focused rather than on "who is the best". They focus on developing future leaders so if you already are recognized as such...you probably would not even pursue consideration. From the AFCA Website...

"The AFCA 35 Under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute is a prestigious program aimed at identifying and developing premier, future leaders in the football coaching profession. Selected participants are invited to attend the one-day institute that features a curriculum of interactive lectures focused on topics specifically tailored to emphasize leadership in the coaching profession, ethics, influential responsibilities, career progression, and family balance."

"To be eligible, applicants had to be born on or after January 1, 1989, and must be currently serving as a high school head coach, two-year college full-time assistant or head coach, or NAIA/NCAA (all divisions) full-time assistant or head coach. Applicants were required to submit a resume, five references, and a 1,600-word article or ten-minute live instructional video on an offensive, defensive, special teams, or position-specific topic of the applicant’s choosing back in the summer."

If an applicant did not submit they would not be considered it seems.
