I start feeling older when I see this type of stuff, but overall, I vaguely remember the fieldhouse and such man those were the teams!!! Love the Dome of Doom!!!

Anyone remember that the original roof (outside) on the AA was made of Copper? Not sure if they ended up painting over it, or taking the copper layer off and replacing it, but when it was brand new, it was a shiny, badassed looking structure. It didn't take long to patina (sp)...but wow was it awesome looking.

I need to find a picture of it!

Its still copper...just corroded

In fact I believe they even replaced the copper once

I recall them re-doing the copper in the 90's sometime - I know it tarnished quickly and didn't stay shiny. I remember when they re-did it some people saying we should do it in silver and have a beer company pay for it / naming rights thing.

pathetically sad crowd tonight absolutely NO ENERGY by anyone tonight, 4881, i understand it's a week night but get real?? Just dont get it and sometimes I really hate the Mtn for showing it...oh well, enuff talk of post season until the ship gets somewhat righted, ugh

It was white originally. They put the copper on in the late 80s. Didn't know it had ever been replaced.

Are you sure about that? I thought the white layer, was the "sealant" that they put on, prior to putting on the copper so the bitch didn't leak.

And I don't remember the copper being replaced once either. The cost to put the copper layer on it had to be extreme. Imagine what it would cost today at $1.75 per pound!

so i could be wrong about the replacing

according to this they just clean and polish the copper from time to time

It was originally a pie, quartered, with alternating brown and gold panels. It was replaced with copper around 1990-91 (I knew a guy who worked on it).

Once it was finished, the Dome of Doom was often referred to as Benny's Penny.
