AA anniversary

to change up the mood a bit: Feb. 20, 1982 was the 1st game at the "dome of doom" against an Air Force squad. http://1063cowboycountry.com/happy-35th-anniversary-to-the-arena-auditorium-in-laramie-videos/

Anyway, my 1st game wasn't until I was a freshman at UW Winter 1988, with Benny Dees and his Reginald Slater and crew squad, good team, fun to watch. Still wish I coulda been 1 year older to have been able to be a part of the Fennis Eric years, I lived in Buffalo and a bit too far to get to games in Laramie. (my official 1st game was at the Cowboy Shootout in Casper 1987-1988.
Seen lots of good NBA caliber players over my years, I've probably been to just over 100 games at the AA and there's no place like it except the new configuration , taking the noise level away etc...but we've harped on that many times.
It's hard to lock down my favorite game going to that many, but one I do truly remember is the Larry Nance snap pass to Josh to beat New Mexico at the buzzer just a few years ago
and yes I was at the Utah-UW game to win the MWC championship on way to a NCAA tourney against Gonzaga. Lot's of memories, lots of teams, the 1991 WAC Tournament(that I skipped all classes that week), lots of good players-coaches and such. Can't wait to see the new exterior of our beloved Double A....feel free to share and that'll kickstart discussion.

Definitely the MWC game vs Utah at the top of my list. I was a freshmen and sophomore in high school during those back to back championship years. Being from Rawlins it was an easy drive. So crazy and loud. We'd get knothole tickets and sit in the student section. The other game I remember was also a Utah game with Brett McFall' half court dunk pass to Josh Davis. Anyone else remember that big guy who'd dance Cotton Eyed Joe in the stairwells during that time?

Some favorite AA games:

1998: UNM, Utah, and BYU. Three great games during "Shyatt Happens". UNM and Utah were both ranked in the Top 10 when they came into the AA and the building was electric and intense. BYU hatred was still at peak level and the game on Valentine's Day was a very satisfying blowout.

2000: Utah. One of my best experiences as a student. Just an awesome time, punctuated by one of my all-time favorite plays (McFall to Davis with the half-court Alley Oop). I was at the game, so I didn't hear the call, but I love seeing the replay on YouTube with Jimmy Dykes saying "This team, this night, in this building? Not a lot of folks are going to want to come in here" or something along those lines. Back in those days, the AA felt legitimately hostile and loud.

Most heartbreaking:

2001 : UNLV. Pretty sure that was the year. Dalron Johnson, half court, heart breaker.

Most recent favorite (I only make it to one or two games per year now, and most of them are in the OOC, so pretty lame):

2014-15: Colorado. 56-33. A total beatdown of the Buffs. This was the first game where we really felt that Nance was back and the sky was the limit. Very exciting time.

I got to go there as a kid for the 86 NIT games, and a handful of games before that. I remember the home game vs. Syracuse was off the hook in there, it was a total zoo. But the most ridiculous game ever was the '88 home game vs BYU, I couldn't talk for two days

I might have gotten to one class that week of the '91 tourney. I got to sit in with the Utah pep band, which was fun. When Majerus walked on the court in his "fat man in a little shirt" Wyoming sweatshirt (against UTEP?), it was a great moment.
