Sadly...I could see it happening.

We picked the wrong time to be shitty in football......you can thank Lee Moon and Tom Burman for this, guys.

I said this would happen....everyone getting excited for the mass exodus of schools from the Big East was hardly a positive for the MWC.

What should happen is the remaining Mid Majors should build a nation wide conference with divisions and create an NFL style program it would be a hell of a lot more exciting than what the BCS has done.

This won't really hurt the MWC name the teams that people would pick to join a new conference? CSU? ROFL laughable, UNLV? Nope, New Mexico, ya right this again. Utah State - Probably, Fresno - Most likely, Nevada - Most likely, Boise - Yup and SDSU would somehow squeeze into the picture with their 1 year of football relevancy.

So what does hte MWC lose? Nothing really we lose the teams that were last in the WAC. I'm not saying none are quality programs but it doesn't hurt the MWC that much.

at least the old WAC was stable and you knew what you "were" getting...i'm tired of this alignment crap, enough already

No new conference will be made. No NCAA auto bid. If it happens, it will just be the best of MWC joining BE. I don't think this happens.

What I find completely off the wall is the MAC, CUSA and the SUNBELT have been completely unaffected by this. So does that mean the BE and MWC are considered the best of the 5 conferences or the worst of the 5? Why aren't any of the other conferences picking apart anything. They are just quietly staying completely off the radar.

The current compositions of the nBE and MWC are clearly the better conferences...but to say the Sun Belt and CUSA has not been affected by this is not true at all. CUSA added Sun Belt teams to backfill for their recent defections to the nBE and now Tulsa and UTEP are looking to get out of the new CUSA as soon as possible. CUSA, had it not backfilled, would have been a desirable home for all the nBE teams to return to but not anymore. The only conference that has been unaffected is the MAC and its very close regional teams and lack of any top programs is what has provided that conference stability. UMASS and Temple were/are never real MAC teams.

Yes the team juggle happened but nearly bad enough to cause the ship to sink. MWC isn't in a terrible spot atm but potentially a bad enough spot to lose some of the better caliber teams in the conference.

Yeah, pretty easy to ignore the 2009 and 2011 seasons.

We didn't win a conference title (or contend for one) AND we got blasted by Temple in the NM Bowl in 2011!!! Remember? :tickedoff:

Getting blasted by Temple was really predictable, IMO. #3 rushing offense vs. #110 rushing defense usually leads to bad results. Football, like everything else, ebbs and flows.. look at the Miami Hurricanes.. a top team for a long time, now is pretty pathetic. Western Kentucky was a pathetic program who is now riding high. Wyoming football rode high for a long time, was down, now is flowing back up (despite the results of this year).

there wont be a new conference made. to much involved to get the application approved. All those teams that talk about a new conference want money now. not later.

due to the playoff system starting in a year, the landscape is currently at its worst state to start a new conference. the only way any mountain west teams leave is if they get invited by the big 5. there is absolutely no reason any mountain west team would go to the unstable big east. there may not even be a big east in a few months. their tv deal is now worse off than it was yesterday.

forming a new conference.... you can't just pick a bunch of schools out of a hat and form it. there are rules. you have to have 6 teams with continuity to start one. then you give up all your earnings from bowls and basketball. all that revenue goes to the old conference. in this case the catholic schools take almost 90% of the basketball revenue with them. so if the big east does die, what revenue do the schools take?

then, you can't get a aq bid to the dance for mutiple years. you can get an at large... but no aq. then you have to figure out bowl tie-ins. if a new conference were to start tomorrow... they wouldnt play a down until there exit fees and timelines were cleared up from old conference. meaning that the earliest a new conference could start is 2014. the year the playoff starts. that means that the new conference would be at the bottom of the totem pole for trying to get that last playoff spot.

people who think that new conferences just form like whenever they are needed are just uneducated.

we started the mountain west when the football landscape was absolutely stable. in 98... we didn't get a tv deal until 2006. they think that they could start a new conference with 0 playing history or stability proven and command a tv deal as of start up date. NOPE. not gonna happen.

there is no money in starting a new conference. you have to pay a huge price to prove stability.

again, do not worry about a new conference... if somehow they can get schools cherry picked to build up the old bigeast brand... then maybe id be worried. but thats a dumpster fire to anybody with a business mind.

they are seriously Fu*ked.
