a few questions

Everyone I think including the players, coaches, and fans believe we are at rock bottom. This brings up a few questions that I have..

1). Has Tom and Joe sat down yet since Saturday and talked??

2). The coaches are not going out to recruit this weekend per Joe. They are going to "stay right here and coach these kids up". Does this tell me that Joe knows there is no future?? What does that say for this program??

3). Folks, we are in trouble and I mean REAL TROUBLE!!! I have said before that this program needed a huge jolt, something that would rock the program and university and state. I don't know if that would even help now. Obviously, this season is over. I am incredibily worried about the FUTURE OF OUR PROGRAM! We are on life support in our program and we are in serious DANGER of losing the whole thing for many years to come. WE ARE IN DEEP, DEEP, T R O U B L E !!!

1. Nope. Joe is probably hiding. Tom probably is hiding as well.
2. He sees the writing on the wall. If I am TB, I am contemplating a change now.
3. True, we are in trouble. BUT, not any more trouble than when Fred Akers came along. Maybe not in any more trouble than when Dennis Erickson came along. Hire an Urban Meyer type guy (Dan Mullen, Norm Chow, etc.) and they will turn this pig quick.

Peach - I don't know if this isn't the lowest and worst it has ever been. You mentioned Akers and Erickson. Did you mean before they got here or when they left? They both moved on to "better" jobs. Where is Joe gonna go?

Are talent is at an all time low. The coaches are not recruiting. Everyone is sitting around until the end of the season when this misery ends. It seems like nothing is getting done or is gonna get done. The future is more bleak than anyone is saying. I am really, really, worried we wont bounce back from this. Kind of a death penalty.

I disagree about the talent level. We have great Rb's, the D is solid, the offensive line is ok, and the QB's have the ability they just aren't being coached to be D1 QB's. I believe our only soft spot at the moment is WR, and a healthy Stewart is a D1 WR. We need a solid D1 coach period. I would put money on that. And there have been teams in way worse situations then us and have turned it around. The University of Buffalo for one, the University of South Florida for another. No matter how low you get as long as you get a coach that can get it done on the field and in the living room it will be a non issue. We are very low right now, but we thought the same thing when Vic was here and 2 years later we were in a bowl game.

Sorry, I was referring to our teams before Akers & Erickson got to UW. We really sucked. As bad as we do now record wise (although both Fritz' & Al's teams were a bit more competititve).

Fritz Shermer was our HC from 1971 - 1974, and although he did wonders for the GB Packers as DC later in his coaching career, he couldn't ever get it going at UW. Akers came in (although he was 2 - 9 his first season 1975) he went 8 - 3 and finished 1st in the Wac (tied) in 1976 and a trip to the Fiesta Bowl. I believe, had he stayed at UW (instead of leaving back to Texas) we play a more competitive game against OU in that Fiesta Bowl, and potentially turn "back" into a dynasty somewhat...that train was ROLLIN'! He was a tough SOB (Urban Meyer type) that took no crap...and he got it done quickly.

Al Kincaid was our HC from 1980 - 1985, and his last year (1985) we went 3 - 8 (29 - 29 overall for the five years). Erickson came in, and made history (at least with a decent turn-around, and some wonderful talent that led to back-to-back undefeated seasons under new coach Paul Roach). Erickson was the offense genious type...his Defense was suspect, but nobody cared when you scored 42 per game.

Snow - respectfully, I appreciate your opinion on the talent of this football team. Let me ask you this though, who on this team could or would start at, let's say, BYU? Utah? and then let's say... Texas? Neb? OK? Anyone? I don't think D-Mo or anyone could, I don't think. Do you? Not wanting to start a fight, just want to know how talented we are.

7220 - Understood, I think we can legitimately debate this without it getting ugly. I am soley going to focus on our team as it pertains to the MWC for now since I would agree that we probably don't have BCS talent but being in a non BCS conference expect for rare exceptions we never will. As for D-Mo he is the #14 best RB in the nation based upon his total rushing yards. He is averaging over 100 yards per game, and only gets limited touches because we turn it over so much. So yes I do believe D-Mo is a starting back for most MWC teams. The O-Line is average and definitly doing an ok job. Both D-mo and Wynel average over 4 yards per carry, good numbers wherever you are. They are definitely not the best line when it comes to pass blocking, but I don't see us as super sub par in that category. Dobbs, Fletcher, Knapton, and Unrein are all D1 players and stout, plus the Gibson brothers are holding their own. We do move the ball, we actually out gained Utah's offense on Saturday, we just have a huge problem holding onto the ball and I think it is a product of our conservative play calling. Players are too worried about making mistakes that they don't just go play. Just my opinion but I don't see us as being that under talented.

ok I will give you D MO,Dobbs, Fletcher, Knapton, and Unrein that they might start for BYU or Utah. Maybe or at least get some playing time. What about the other 15 or 16? Here's my point. To contend with the BYU's or Utah's, I think our talent level has to dramatically increase. I think we both agree how much more we need with coaching!!! I am just not sure that our talent level is even close to D1 talent. They said this weekend on the Fla-LSU game that Urban said he wants to be the fastest team in America. Ok, I know we can't be that but why can't we be that for the MWC? I will argue and argue that recruiting to Wyo is blown way out of proportion when it is said that it is difficult. Others have done it. Laramie is not a hard sell. If that is the coaches excuse then they shouldn't be coaching in Laramie! I just want us to be good like everyone on this board. Things need to change!

I completely agree with you about the fact that there is plenty of room for improvement and I will even acknowledge that some of the recruits are at best low level D1 players. I only wanted to suggest that there is enough talent here IMO that a prospective coach could watch film and think he could turn the program around and that we aren't on "talent life support". Things do need to change, agreed Laramie isn't as hard to sell as we are being led to believe, especially with the new facilities, new conference center, etc. Plus its still a pretty safe place and has a welcoming feel compared to most D1 schools/towns.

We could blame the talent level on our alumni and boosters. If they would pony up some cash to buy recruits sports cars, get some strippers in there for the campus visits and start giving away free iPods, maybe we could get some better recruits! C'mon, guys - let's step it up a little!

Isn't that what my CJC dollars go to? As much as I paid for that autographed Cowgirl Basketball, half the football team should have iPods!!
