I keep seeing these problems in each game. They seem like no brainer fixes to me but I am just a sideline jackhole so, was wondering if others noticed any of these systemic problems:
1) Both Dax and ACS have ball exchange issues. 9 out of 10 times, I know which gap they are shooting or if they are running a sweep because it takes both QB's forever to orient the hand-offs/directional pitch after the snap. Dax is worse than ACS but they both do it and have done so most of the season (Air Force game was a little bit better). It took more than a second or two to execute the exchanges all day today and in almost every instance, the QB's have been easily read by the D line and LBs. The Air Force game was an anomaly and we seemed to do a better job of not telegraphing the play and had much quicker exchanges. This is really hurting the efforts to establish a running game. I understand the play calling argument here and I am onboard with Arroyo's lack of creativity. However, I also see a lack of sharp execution on the plays we do call. Am I crazy?
2) ACS has got to do a better job of throwing the ball out of bounds. I know he makes some pretty incredible plays when he is dodging pursuit but, there are times when I want to wrap my hands around his neck and scream at him for taking deep sacks. I know he isn't getting much help from his line and he is constantly on the run but it just seems a little 'extra' attention in this area would help us to stay out of the hole during drives. I want to see him develop into a smart player for the next two years.
I thought the D did a fine job today and they weren't out of gas like they have been in earlier games. Pretty impressed.
Kicking? I hate the rugby kick, always have. Especially risky in inclement weather. How well it is going to work when it is 12 degrees and sleeting?
Am watching the Mizzou/Oklahoma game and my mouth is salivating over that spread offense. If DC gets that thing going (or, even some kind of hybrid), things are going to be looking up for the Pokes. It really is a thing of beauty. However, Mizzou has one hell of an O line and I think we are going to need to see big improvement in the current starters as well as better recruiting in this area for the future. It doesn't work to well without those critical three to four seconds of protection.
Us fans had our guts ripped out in the fourth quarter. I had visions of last year dancing in my wee little head. My two cents anyway. I think the Aztec game will be pretty exciting.
