9 games left

Well we have 9 games left.

15-6 is the record and 2-6 in MWC play.

We have a very winnable game tomorrow, although it is on the road.
1 win and this team can gain some confidence back.

We need some confidence to finish the regular season.

There are no gimmes at this point but I do think we are capable of winning 7 of the final games. I don't think we will win 7 but it is possible.

I would be happy with a 5-4 record to get us to 20 wins on the season.

I would rather be in the NIT than the CBI, but I think with the teams that make the CBI, we have a legit chance of winning it, considering the CBI teams are more similar to our OOC schedule.
Obviously the Big Dance would be sweet, but we would have to probably win the remaining 9 games and make it to the MWC finals. Or obviously just win the MWC tourney regardless of how the final 9 games go. But anything is possible.

Let's just hope that the Pokes get a win tomorrow, and that can propel us into a nice 4 game win streak as we get to play at Boise St. and 2 home games against Nevada and Fresno.

Go Pokes! The season is not over.

That would put us at a respectable 8-8 MWC play, and an overall of 22-8 (14-0 OOC)

IF we get that, we are probably a 4 or 5 seed in the MWC Tourney.

That possible 7-2 record could also be 2-7.

If we finish 7-2, we'll make the NCAA tournament. I'll be honest with you, I don't know how likely that finish is, but it's far from impossible.

Back in 97-98, Shyatt's team bounced back from a conference losing streak to finish the regular season 7-2. This team still defends well enough to win any game. They just haven't shot well enough. And I'm officially fucking sick and tired of Leonard Washington jacking 6 threes per game and maybe making 1.

We shot like shit against CSU, but I liked some of the ball movement and I liked our guards attacking the rim. We sure settled for a lot of crappy shots in that game, but I think that there were some teachable moments there. I also like the direction I saw the offense moving against New Mexico. I hate to rely on so many threes, but I feel like they're piecing together some sort of ability to score. I also like that we're seeing real contributions from the bench recently.

This could be a great week for this team to come together. We'll see what happens.


Also, for the record, I'm more worried about a road game at Air Force than I am SDSU. We kicked SDSU's ass when we couldn't hit a basket to save our lives. I know they're reasonably tough at home, but they're not showing the same home dominance that CSU and New Mexico are showing. The SDSU road game is one that I think we could steal. Hell, we almost did last year.

I guess that's where we differ......when Martinez is out, Wyoming's capabilities drop dramatically. Like Wyo2Dal noted about Boise in another thread, when Elloriaga goes out BSU is a fuckin' mess. A mess that appears to have no end in sight......until Elloriaga came back....then all of a sudden BSU's beats UNLV (Rebels never led). Wyoming just seems to be, quite honestly, a bad team when Martinez is out. That X factor is gone. We've seen in recent games the inability to score.....its become contagious, and I'm not sure its guaranteed they'll shake that at all. Elloriaga/Martinez really spread the floor for other players....without them, both teams are below average by MWC standards. Without them, I have a hard time seeing either team advancing to the 2nd round of the MWC Tournament, let alone attempting to win it.

I say let the subs play a LOT more. Prepare for next year. Note that Riley and Josh had a total of zero points last time out, so can't do much worse.
