Ignoring how much money you pay to your agent, the players' union, taxes, and so on. $480k? Where on earth did you get that number. Practice squad typically doesn't pay more than the minimum, which since 2013 sits at $102k/season, or $6,000/week for 17 weeks.

I thought that was how much they made. Apparently not though.

Well, it's not like that's terrible pay out of college either way (especially considering there's 35 more weeks in the year). I was just curious where you saw that number?

I want to say on here...but I'm not really sure where I saw it. Maybe it's one of those incorrect facts that have no origin; it just came to be.

Practice squad money $102,000 is a lot different than league minimum, which in the NFL for 2014 is $420,000. Even being a league veteran has perks even if you aren't a big name star just for being in the NFL for 10 years your minimum salary is $904,000.

Hell players have incentive bonuses on everything, Workout Bonus from March until May workouts can not be reuqired so they offer you $175 per workout you attend.

Take AA on the low ball side of it all, $405,00K was what he earned for his contract at league minimum in 2013. If he participated in March - May Workouts he could have picked up as much as $11k-12k

There is big money in getting that contract as long as you know how to take care of the money.
