2014 Kansas Prospects remaining

I'm not going to list some of the top remaining prospects as those kids are already deciding between Big XII/SEC offers. Here are kids that hopefully the prior Wyoming staff or the NDSU staff were on already.

The undefeated Hodgeman Co. Had some tough RBs. That I think could transition to 11 man nicely.

I totally agree with the kids on this list.

Alex Kreger would be probably be the only one and he would be a CB prospect if a D-1 team gave him a sniff. Playing 8-Man football hurts him with D-1 sadly and probably best bet is to go to either Dodge or Garden first IMO. Also Hodgeman lost in the State Title game to Osborne.

Craig Bohl has gotten some great players for NDSU from Kansas and Nebraska... that will be a focus of future Wyoming players.

Ah good ol Scandia! ;-)

There is a lot more talent in Kansas than many imagine. It has always surprised me why we haven't hit it harder. There are kids down KSU/KU recruiting board that would still be very good prospects for schools like Wyoming. Not to mention IMO KU does a bad job recruiting Kansas.

That's right, they did lose state. Still two good RBs. I do find it sad that Most of the talent in Kansas HS is left for JUCO. If people actually realized how talented the Jayhawk conference is, I think a lot more if these kids would get a better crack at D1.
Sadly, even though it takes talent away from D1 talent in Kansas I really believe a JUCO football league in WYO would help a lot of wyoming HS players have a better chance at a D1 career, instead of going to and getting stuck in a D2, D3 and NAIA league.

It would make a drastic difference. You take a talented kid that may have decent speed but is 6'1", 175-pounds and put him in a JUCO and he likely comes out not only a lot better player but probably a lot more mature physically/emotionally. Now that Wyoming kid is on more equal footing.

Wyoming community colleges are also very affordable. I think it would be a great place for Wyoming kids to develop while also getting playing time. They could then move on to DII schools, NAIA, etc. if they aren't cut out for DI after two or three years at the JUCO level. I've been in favor of this for a while but it's easier said than done. The schools are pretty spaced out which would make travel expensive and a pain in the ass. Would a JUCO 6-man or 8-man league be plausible?

Exactly! I always thought WYO should work with the JUCOs in the state and get a conference started. Play each other and play some Kansas schools. The JUCOs in WYO are not that small. In fact many of them match up with the size of the JUCOs down here. Exception, Barton, running about 8k enrollment right now.
Traveling with football is pretty enexpensive with a 10 game season. 5 home, 5 away. These already travel to eachother in other sports. One road non conf travel still wouldn't be that much.
And a 6 man or 8 man would not help, that is already why a lot of 8 man HS kids go JUCO here. To make it 8 man at the next level would be pointless.
But that would be another step toward success at UW and using local players.

It would require a lot more resources than you think. I doubt any Wyoming junior college has the facilities necessary. I know Sheridan College doesn't. So you're looking at at least a few million per school just to get that in place.

Equipment, recruiting, travel would cost less than most sports. Facilities: build a weight room or use local high schools, fields? Build a field and stadium, or use local high schools. Dodge City CC does this. They are about to invest in weight room with the Bowl earnings they acquired. It can be done, and done far cheaper than mover think. Mos coaches are already on staff as teachers, no problem there either.
I'm not saying you wouldn't pay out a little to get it started, but it can become profitable. Shoot, Hutch CC just avgd a great amount per home game, that helps them with new uniforms and recruiting. Wyomings CCs are very profitable schools. WWCC in RS is constantly renevating and adding new buildings. Enrollmentt of most of these schools are also up. It's definitely worth it.

Bohl has connections at hutchinson cc. Expect some kids from there and snow college utah cc
Had a couple from Snow College a couple years ago. 1 did fairly well, the other didn't see much time on the field.

The Kansas Community Colleges that have football are Butler, Hutchinson, Coffeyville, Independence, Highland, Ft. Scott, Garden and Dodge. Plenty of talent to be found there!

If I were a Wyoming coach I would be camped out in Butler, Hutch, Dodge and Garden. The first two because they are just loaded with talent and the later two because they would be the most similar to Wyoming.
