THis is just a general question...for the top-line UW athletic programs, MBB and FB, What would you be satisfied with?

Here are some questions to prime the pump:
  • Is there an era of Wyoming athletics that represents that standard?
  • Does MBB or FB matter more or less or do you care about both?
  • How much does the durability of success matter to you?
  • Do conference championships make long stretches of non-competetiveness tolerable?
  • Does doing it the "right way" matter to you? (i.e. NCAA violations)
Or any other ways you want to construe this topic.

You can cross off the last bullet point. There are no NCAA violations anymore, it is a free for all now.

Mid to late 1980’s would be the standard.

  • Does MBB or FB matter more or less or do you care about both?
I enjoy both and will support both, if they can field competitive teams.
  • How much does the durability of success matter to you?
I’m not expecting conference championships every year but every 3-5 years would make me happy.
  • Do conference championships make long stretches of non-competetiveness tolerable?
It depends on the duration of non-competitiveness. Anything over 5 years is too long.
  • Does doing it the "right way" matter to you? (i.e. NCAA violations)
Yes. I will not support a team that has to cheat to win. Integrity is important to me. These teams represent the State of Wyoming.

Thanks for the input....would love to see us get to what you are describing.

My fandom began the year after the CCG lose to BYU (29 years ago). Since then, zero championships, 1 CCG appearance, 1 nine win season and I would say one bowl win of any importance (UCLA in 2004).

What I would be happy with is a CCG appearance every 5 years and finishing in the top 1/3 of the conference more often than not. A conference championship once each decade would be really nice.

In basketball, regular season titles mean more to me than winning 4 in 4 days in the conference tourney. Finishing in the top 1/3 of the conference more often than not is reasonable. An NCAA bid every 7 years isn't asking too much I don't think. 3 in 29 years is a little sparse.

  • Is there an era of Wyoming athletics that represents that standard?
    • Late 1980's and then to a lesser extent 2014 to 2016.
  • Does MBB or FB matter more or less or do you care about both?
    • I care about both.
  • How much does the durability of success matter to you?
    • I feel like competing for a championship every 5 years isn't out of the question.
  • Do conference championships make long stretches of non-competitiveness tolerable?
    • See above. Every 5 years is long enough. Not 20 to 30. I remember when Tom Burman was first hired he said we should finish in the top 3 of the conference every 3 to 4 years at a minimum. He said this at the cowboy shootout in Casper. He has changed his story over the years! haha
  • Does doing it the "right way" matter to you? (i.e. NCAA violations)
    • The short answer is Yes. I also feel like we never take risks. I feel like we are so by the book that we actually make more requirements for ourselves. When we do this we fall behind everyone else because they are willing to challenge the book and we are not. This might be completely wrong but that is the message I get from our athletics dept.
