President Reeves - Time to Fire Tom Burman

There is no way that anyone can trust Tom Burman to make the right decision. For the sake of the athletes, for the sake of the University of Wyoming and finally, for the sake of the State of Wyoming....Tom Burman MUST go!

....and this is someone that has been supporting the Pokes for 50 years!

President Reeves has his work cut out for him. That is for sure.

I don't know the specifics of the UW bylaws, but even if Reeves had the authority to fire Burman/Sawvel without their approval, he would surely need the BoT's formal approval to cover the financial impacts that would be generated by their buyouts.

Not only that, but he would run the risk of putting himself on the bad side of the BoT. As we've seen before, the BoT and the good ole boys network will run you out of town in no time if you start rocking the boat more than they like.

All this to say, Burman and Sawvel aren't going anywhere. We are Wyoming after all. The idea of "competing" is one we like to talk about, but we don't really mean it. We don't have the balls or the money to be competitive in today's day and age. It's just that nobody is willing to actually say it.

I don't know you personally, and you may be a great guy. I have had an incredible career of accomplishment with my degree from UW these pas 20+ year with the Department of Navy. During that same time, I cannot claim that you have had the same resume of accomplishment. The current state of Wyoming athletics are nowhere near what it was when I was attending. We packed the Arena with a record amount of folks that made the "Dome of Doom" a feared trip for any team in the country. The remodel killed it...along with the decisions you made for coaching. I cannot blame you for the Lee Moon decisions, but what can you point to as an accomplishment for the success of Wyoming football during your tenure. Please don't embarrass yourself with the "We maintained our competitiveness crap that has been spewed over the past 20 years. Since the founding of the MWC, Wyoming has been a legit contender to win the conference.....ONCE!....One time in your entire tenure have we had a shot at winning in football. Before you want to bring up Basketball, do you really want to discuss those decisions?

In closing, thank you for the facilities? But it is time to go.....

No joke. It’s embarrassing for President Reeves to do that and not give a shit about the actual product on the field. The guy is beginning to seem like another clown on a long line of clowns

Completely disagree. Its smart marketing especially when your target demographic is teens and their parents. It makes him seem relatable and accessible and fun. Doing the old stoic good Ole boy shit in his castle at old main isn't going to change anything at the university. You guys want change but then complain when change happens... honestly this is part of the issue with everything in Wyoming and why its dying.

With the faculty getting younger, it's also important that he appears relatable and modern to them, as well. The videos are easy, low lift/low stakes ways he can engage with the people who the University is dependent on.

I don’t really care what videos he makes as long as he shows he was serious about improving athletics.

I’d just like to hear a clear plan from him. Simply saying athletics are “important” and “the front porch to the University” and actually taking tangible steps to improve athletics are two entirely different things.

I fear that he is just another guy with good intentions coming in who finds out the reality of things, financial and otherwise, aren’t going to allow him to deliver the way he would like.

I get this is a board focused on Athletics, and we're very passionate about that, but I think we're forgetting that the faculty senate, the governance arm of the academic side of the Institution, voted pretty overwhelmingly- like 40-10 in a vote of no confidence... So, he has his work cut out for him.

I believe he'll make the necessary changes in Athletics in due time. I also believe that Athletics are just one of the many problems he needs to fix at the University. He needs to have the faculty senate on his side, and I think he's doing many of the right things internally to get that ship back on track.

I do wish he were more communicative about what his priorities are. He hasn't been in office yet to develop and deploy a strategic plan, but I'm hoping I see one by January.
