I don't think anyone really knows how good CSU will be this year. They have 70+ new players and a new coach.

But even if CSU is a bad team, I suspect we are worse. We really did nothing to sure up our two biggest deficiencies in the last couple years: O-Line and WR. And, of course, we have Sawvel running things again despite the fact he has shown himself to be an awful college football head coach these past two seasons.

This season really just feels like we are going through the motions until the new President can drop the hammer and start cleaning house so that a rebuild can begin. At least I'm hoping the new President is ready and willing to do that. If not, then I'm not sure why we are even playing competitive collegiate athletics at this point.

They at least tried to upgrade the OL but even two transfer signees will not overcome a position group that has shown ZERO fire under Tripodi

But a 2 win team last year with 70 new players against our defense which I think will be decent to good, means I just don't see them scoring a ton on us. I also don't see us scoring much with the reports I have read about our offense over fall practice. So I think it will be a really low scoring game overall

The over/under on csewe wins this year is 3 1/2. If we get hammered by a team that may be terrible, the rest of the year could be pretty grim. I remember how empty the stands were during Joe Glenn's last year. There is no way Sawvel makes it to year four if fans and students stop coming.

I don’t see Sawvel being fired for poor results until next year. It would be crazy to fire Sawvel and hire a new staff before the new AD is in place following Burman’s likely ‘retirement’ next June. We really want Burman hiring ANOTHER head coach?!?!?

Maybe fire Sawvel and promote Bohl Jr. or someone else to be ‘interim head coach’ until the new AD is in place and a hiring process occurs November 2027.

Bad offenses can still lead to points being scored on both sides…

So can bad special teams. Anyone remember the 2 blocked punts last year where we decided to fix nothing after the first one?

Wyoming should have got a NIL deal from Ole Salsa since they were pretty much matadors when it came to blocking.

That did not work out too badly for Indiana. I assume Mora brought a core group of players with him from UConn so it is not like he is starting from ground zero. The bigger issue is we don't know if Wyoming with a new QB and OC will finally be able to put points on the board.
My hope is Wyoming wins but I am leery of the team playing just well enough to lose in close game.

Somehow I just can’t get past Sawfuls ability to screw this all up again. The ewes at goat U get the W, 13-3 goats.

And we shouldnt even be playing this game. So I can’t get past Burmans ability to screw this whole thing up…….again. UW football, where you can screw it all up, again, and get your contract extended.

It was 100% coaching and had nothing to do with the players really.

The special teams scheme called for the blocker not to engage if the defender went to the outside under the theory that there wouldn't be enough time to get to the punter. So the blocker did what he was coached to do...stand there and do nothing.

But if that wasn't bad enough...after the first punt was blocked, we changed nothing and had it blocked again. 2 punt block TDs in a row.

Summed up Sawvel's tenure (so far) as head coach pretty well.

Yes. I think it would take a 1-11 or 0-12 year for Sawvel to be gone given the nature of his guaranteed contract and the timing of Burman’s replacement.

No good athletic director is going to want to step into the role when they were completely excluded from the hiring of the new coach that is now bound to the program with a multi-year contract. Why would a decent potential AD want their reputation on the line when they were excluded from the process? We might as well just hire Burman’s current assistant as the ‘new AD’ and continue on the path we are on now if that’s what we are planning.

There were a few issues on both of those blocked punts:

1) Edmiston was a little slow getting the punt off. I went back and picked 10 random punts of his from our own end of the field and timed them from start of snap to when the ball came off his foot. Out of the 10 punts I looked at, those two were 2nd and 3rd slowest.

2) The snaps were not great, especially on the second block. Edmiston had to reach/take a step to catch the ball and this played directly into him being a bit slow getting the ball off. On the second block, the snapper took Edmiston toward the unblocked edge rusher.

3) Line splits were a little narrow. It wasn't terrible, but if you add an extra half inch to the splits, that results in the edge rusher having more ground to cover to get to the punter.

As you correctly pointed out, the most concerning thing is that these issues were not fixed after the first punt. That is just completely unacceptable from the coaching staff.

No way. Outside of a few programs around the country, if football fails, the entire athletic department is seen as a failure.

Any decent AD is going to want a major say in who is hired as the next head football coach.

This is a really bad take. The AD is responsible for the success of the athletics program and the football coach is driving the bus. Better have a good, qualified driver if you want to make it to your destination.
