Wow.. that's a great elk. Where'd you land him at? What's he going to score on the Boone and Crockett? 350?
Why are you surprised that it was out in the plains? Elk are natively a plains animal and were driven to the mountains by predators as part of their evolution.

I assume that's going to make a nice wall hanger in your place? The area you shot it looks like pretty much every hunting area in Wyoming. Buddy of mine is up hunting near the Beartooth's right now.
I don't have an elk tag yet this year but I think I can get on some land down South of Lolo.. next year I'm going to apply for the very rare and highly coveted Missouri Brakes tag.. you never walk out of there with anything less than a trophy. Or I think I can go hunt some land around Grassrange/Lewistown.
