Congrats to the team on the invite and good luck!

But how does a 16-14 team who collapsed at the end of the season get an invite? This is perplexing.

I found the answer. The WNIT is the new CBI.

Women’s basketball now has the WBIT which is the new 2nd best tournament.

The embodiment of the current state of Wyoming athletics. The most mediocre of the mediocre.

There are no other teams to choose from. LOL. J/k.

Glad to see the 'Pokes in. They have a chance to make a run and redeem itself.

We have a better record than Minnesota! But they will be a real challenge as they play in a real good conference.

I think we win this one. We somehow have started to play well again.

The WNIT is no longer the second best tourney, correct?

Correct. The NCAA bought the Men’s NIT but didn’t buy the Women’s NIT. This year, the NCAA started the 32 team WBIT which is now the 2nd best women’s tournament.

Some of the marketing that I see coming from the University is comparing this year’s run to the 2007 WNIT run. While I am happy for the wins in this tournament, the comparison is not fair to the really good 2007 team IMO.

IMO - This WNIT run is more comparable to the men’s CBI run in 2017.

Also here’s a good article on the new women’s tournament’s structure.

https://dknetwork.draftkings.com/2024/3 ... dianapolis

Like anything NCAA run, even the WBIT is becoming somewhat questionable even in its first year. The WBIT selected and seeded its teams and then later learned that #1 seed Miami had changed its mind and would be rejecting the invite. So they added James Madison to the tournament and simply gave JMU the 1 seed rather than shifting any seeds.

The WNIT is privately run. They make their selections after NCAAT and WBIT selections. They pick host locations purely on profitability standards. Because Wyoming draws well and can meet certain guarantees, we tend to get the home games even with relatively poor records.

Welp that was "fun."

Minnesota ends the Cowgirls season, 65-54.

Probably cost the athletic department tens of thousand to host the CBI for the women. Eh, I mean NIT. Not sure that is money well spent.

I could see a justification for it if the ladies won the tournament but....
