Our fans suck

You got your noon kick. You just beat your rival. You’re in the hunt to do something no Wyoming team has ever done. You have an exciting new resurgence with a young stud quarterback. Could go on and on.

Please don’t ever let me hear anything about the pathetic crowds in Fort Collins from you guys ever again . Yesterday’s crowd was an embarrassment.

I was there for the whole game and I froze my nuts off. Wind chill was nasty and the humidity was high. I don't blame people for not wanting to bring their kids to that. I also don't blame people for not wanting to make the drive from out of town. It's the nature of the beast when a large portion of the fan base lives out of town. Fort Collins fans have to drive accross town. Our fans come from all over the state.

Were you there? I was.

Our previous only win at home was to an FCS team and the weather was poop. It’s kind of hard to justify driving 5.5 hours on questionable roads (along with hotels, food, etc) to watch Wyo play a gutter team.

Costs me around $500 for a Saturday in Laramie ( Dinner out, hotel, bars, and tickets) . I can’t afford every game, and I chose to attend some other games instead of the SJS game. Now you can blame the Cheyenne, Denver/Ft Collins, and Laramie fans for at least not showing up for a half. Wyoming will always have one game that will dip the attendance average because of weather, hell I remember a game when all the high ways were closed and New Mexico had to have a Wydot escort to just get to Laramie.

Our team was 3-6 going in. Be realistic....we don't have enough fans to get a decent crowd when we are doing well let alone fill the stadium with our current record. It is what it is.

All excuses. Broken record. Our crowd was an embarrassment. And yes I was there as I am every game come hell or high water.

That was cool - WYDOT camera's caught the escort into town. We pummeled them that game. I got pummeled with snowballs. Only 14k in attendance that day. It is pretty amazing that Laramie alone can get 14k to a game....

What was the actual attendance, not reported. We all know how they can be "fudged".?

Not an excuse. It's realistic for our stadium to be empty when we aren't winning. It's Wyoming not Nebraska. We can't even fill the stadium when we are competitive unless it's a P5 team with a bunch of their fans. We have a small fan base that has lost interest during the continued decline of winning over the years. They don't care about SJSU. Quit overinflating your fanhood.....it's great that you care and prioritize it over family and work but it doesn't mean you are a better fan than others that don't.

To top off all the other points people are making, ticket prices are getting really really expensive.

Once you start bringing a family to the game, it's big bucks (not even including all the extra game day expenses).

TV also plays a major role in this. I wonder how many eyes were glued to TV sets watching the game? We can now watch every game on a 60 in. TV from the comfort of our homes. I fly out for at least 1-2 games a year though. Can't beat the ambiance of the War!

Its great that you can see the cowboys on TV almost all the time. This last game, I had to listen to Dave and Kevin - which quite frankly - they should be the color analysts on TV too.

I've been to so many damn home football games - many in which we sucked! - distance really is the most important thing. We are lucky that we get national attention every weekend in Laramie, Wy.

I understand why our attendance will suck. I understand why it is tough. Frankly, after going to the CSU game last weekend, I realize that we need to upgrade our stadium a bit in terms of audio and overall cleanliness.

It doesn't matter how bad ass we are or how bad we suck, we have work to do. And at least we aren't sucking right now. You can call out the attendance - but we are lucky to get 14k locally. When you get out there and start turning the tricks and getting more here (hopefully from colo), we can at least hear some more roaring.

It is a different generation now. CTE is real. Who the hell knows what is going to happen.

It's definitely different now. I've always thought that we should try out of the box ideas to generate attendance. Like ticket stubs offer discounts at certain venues. A gas station, hotels, food.

Also, our new qb makes me wonder if we shouldn't have an up-tempo package. The rpo could do real damage. Run-pass-option. We have the pieces, the quick twitch recievers... I love ball control, but suprising a team with tempo could really elevate this unit.

At the end of the day, it was a 3-6 team playing a 1-7 team in poop weather.

It would be helpful if tickets got cheaper toward the end of the season - especially when we play teams like SJSU. Like already mentioned, it's a lot of money to pony up to sit in the cold (even though I honestly think that's part of the charm with Wyoming).

That said, yesterday I had to choose between my son's hockey game and going up to Laramie, and honestly, my son's going to win that battle every time. If he played soccer, he'd be on his own, though. :P

The question is, are you a real fan or a bandwagon fan? How many of you were there November 11, 2000? Pokes were 1-8 at that point of the season. Night game. Six degrees at kickoff. Six inches of snow in the stands they didn’t even bother to clear. Patrick Chukwura’s final home game as a Cowboy and they lost 34-0. I am proud to say I attended.

Two highlights remain in my memory. It was the week of the Presidential election and a winner had not yet been determined. At halftime when they announced the attendance he said something like “Tonight’s attendance 9,000. Officials demand a recount “. It was funny because there couldn’t have been more than 250 of us in the stands.

The other was when the Pokes attempted a field goal and muffed the snap. The stadium announcer said “oh poop”. Got a good laugh from those of us there.

I don’t get to games anymore now that I live so far away. Last game I attended was the conference championship against SDSU. That wasn’t cheap and I froze my southern acclimated ass off, but I loved every minute.

You can be a ‘real’ fan and not attend every home game. Many people have families and kids and family priorities and safety should always take precedence period! While, I attend almost every home game, I more than understand and agree with those that don’t. If snow or iced over roads were in the forecast and if I had kids and lived relatively far away, I would always choose safety first and stay home and watch it on TV because at that point you are putting your kid’s safety at risk.
