Please forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is a "sock puppet"?

Basically an account made for the sole purpose of trolling/being a joke/antagonizing others. Can also be referred to as a "multi" or someone who has multiple accounts for whatever reason. Not mutually exclusive though.
