https://twitter.com/mikevorel/status/484034336723722240 Wyoming's Granberry thriving in role as pregame hype man

LARAMIE -- Jerron Granberry is not Jerron Granberry anymore.

It's about five minutes before tip-off in Wyoming's Mountain West home opener against New Mexico, and the typically soft-spoken shooter's voice rings triumphantly, aggressively, above the vaguely inspirational music playing over the Arena-Auditorium loudspeaker.

Granberry's bald head bobs up and down as he stomps from side to side, arms cocking and pumping in rhythm as he delivers the speech that will send his teammates into a veritable frenzy. Wyoming's starters sit smiling on the bench in front of him, handed a front-row seat to the show before the show.

Based on Austin Conway's conversation below with Jake Holtzman (who is headed to DU), it looks like there is a very good chance the UW staff will have smiles on their faces tonight. Fingers crossed.:

Getting a commit from Conway this early in the game would really set the coaching staff up for a monster recruiting class this year.

It's Wyoming....

Pretty big win for Shyatt getting, this recruit could make an immediate impact on the team. Reminds me of Brandon Ewing the way he burns the court. Little shorter but faster definitely going to be a few great upcoming years.

Also noticed JOSH WRIGHT commented on Conways instagram " Tell me why that's where I'll probably end up too " so maybe we'll get a speedster CB for the Football team :)

More from Vorel on Conway's interview. Austin obviously has a good head on his shoulders. The Pokes look like they have two solid points for the future in Lieberman and Conway.

I don't think the rest of the MWC have a clue about Wyoming's BB team this year (with the quality depth we now have) and for years to come. They haven't seen us finish the season without losing our top players for two years in a row, and we didn't have the quality depth to fill in for them. The lack of big men under the basket put more pressure on our guards, and it showed at the end of both of the last two seasons. I expect to see several of our new Pokes getting a lot of PT this season and getting better as the season goes on. Even after losing 6 players at the end of this season, there will be a solid group of talent and experience to step in. The 3 National Championships on our coaching staff aren't going to hurt either. I think it's going to get exciting.
You can tell how big a person is by what it takes to discourage him/her.

https://twitter.com/JonRothstein/status ... 3062697984 3. Wyoming is a legitimate contender in the Mountain West if Larry Nance Jr. is healthy

If the 6-8 Nance was at full strength there's a good chance he'd be the Mountain West Conference's Preseason Player of the Year. Nance averaged 15.4 points and 8.6 rebounds last season before suffering a torn ACL on Feb 18 that forced him to miss the rest of the season. Wyoming had won eight of its last 11 games at the time of the injury and was 17-9 overall and 8-5 in league play.

Assuming Nance is back at the level in which he showed prior to the knee injury, coach Larry Shyatt should have a team that's more than capable of challenging for a place atop the conference standings.

In addition to Nance, the Cowboys return a borderline all-league player in 6-2 guard Josh Adams (12.7 points in 13-14). The junior scored 21 or more points in his final four Mountain West games of last season and should hit the ground running as a junior.

Wyoming boasts seven juniors and seniors and that should give it a distinct edge over certain other programs in the conference. There's no reason why the Cowboys can't be right in the mix with the other teams in this league trying to challenge San Diego State.
