So best case scenario is we lose bsu, suds, Fresno, unlv, csu, and af so we can finally compete?

It's not the worst case scenario, but I would just assume move into the PAC-# if possible.

Who is suggesting that? The only possibility of that I see would be the ACC falling apart and Cal and Stanford joining WSU and OSU in some PAC reformulation.

No way does Air Force go to that conference.

I'm just wondering what the preferred outcome is. If we'll never compete with those teams due to nil and such, is it better if we stay with them or they seperate?

The big divide right now is Boise. They are pumping a lot of NIl money for a G5 (a complete waste I think). They think they can return to their old glory (I’m doubtful).

I haven’t heard of CSU significantly spending in NIL (and does not appear so from reports) and certainly AFA is not.

We are behind UNLV, Fresno (football) and SDSU. It sounds like the casinos are now joining the NIL game so perhaps UNLV finally lives up to its potential. But right now the divide isn’t such that separation makes any sense.

So, csu should remain at our level or lower?

Can WYO compete with the top of the conference on the football field or is that insurmountable? Wouldn't a combo of wsu, osu, bsu, suds, and Fresno essentially guarantee we're back to the tcu, byu, Utah era?

No. WSU and OSU are in for a harsh reality. They will likely fall off a cliff at some point.

So you think we should be competitive with the top of the conference regardless?

I don’t think we will be better than Boise under current spending conditions (but we certainly weren’t before). I think once WSU and OSU burn through their 200 million, those schools are unlikely to see huge donor influx of cash and massive NIL dollars.

‘Should’ be competitive is not a word I would use. We are near the bottom of the barrel in NIL dollars in the MWC. ‘Could’ is a word I would use because we haven’t seen the massive divide in dollars yet in conference. But SDSU (basketball) and UNLV might be pulling away.

It's worth thinking about for sure...How realistic is it to be in a conference when you are against a school that has 10x the NIL $$ available for their players?

If players care about that (does anybody think they don't?), then the NIL group that 10x's what your schools NIL group can muster will consistently have better players. Does that mean you can never beat them?...Lower division schools have beaten powerhouses before...it just doesn't happen very often. Do you want to watch 10 years of games against the powerhouse before you get a fluky victory? Or is that not enough?

I don't think the difference in results will emerge when the NIL/market differences are small. In the case of CSU...they may have slightly better NIL opportunities and if the conference realignment talk is any indication, they also seem to have more "market appeal"...but it's not a big enough difference to translate into markedly better talent on the court/field. The difference emerges when you see what BSU is doing and what UNLV might be doing. If the market for talent is competitive, the institutions that have the most to offer will get more than the other institutions.

Basically we have a shot at the current spending levels? If that's the case then does ad and coach matter or will always find ourselves in the same spot regardless of who is running the show?

Things are changing rapidly in the world of NIL, conference realignment, TV contracts etc. Until the dust settles no one really will know if there will be a PAC #? , changed membership in the MWC ? Or an entirely new structure to college FB?. Wyoming is basically at the mercy of events beyond our control.

There are four paths for Wyoming moving forward, three of which are acceptable:

1. Part of the Pac-# with all/majority of Mountain West schools (60% chance)

2. In the Mountain West as is (ACC blows up, giving W/OSU a path into power five) (10%)

3. In a diminished Mountain West (3-6 schools leave for Pac-#) but Wyoming gets a nice payout (25%)

4. 9 teams not including Wyoming dissolve the Mountain West so they can join the Pac-#, leaving Wyoming to CUSA. (5%)

As long as we're not #4, it will be great to ok.

Buckle up. Going to get interesting. I think the pac2 leveraging their vote will expedite the split. The sec/big ten task force is really looking at what their playoff value in the $1 billion + contract would be. Make no mistake they won't cater to the pac2 beyond the current playoff contract.

The MWC commissioner did a great job in the negotiation. It protects against any MWC schools being left behind for an re-built PAC and against WSU and OSU joining a conference like the AAC and bringing MWC schools along.

Realistically, I see the reverse merger happening and all of us becoming ‘PAC’ members. I don’t see WSU and OSU being invited to a P4.

The comment about 9 votes was interesting (always assumed that was the case)

bsu, unlv, csu, fsu, and suds are almost guaranteed yes votes. That leaves 4 more. I think unm could be convinced. The sleazeballs in Utah would flip if they were offered. The rest?

This is representative of the arrogance of Wazzoo and The Beavs. They aren’t as attractive as they believe, or they would have gotten an invite. A reverse merger seems the best avenue to proceed. Just get it done…….. But yes, our supposed conference mates would sell us out in a heartbeat.

Quote;
Some officials around college sports wish Oregon State and Washington State would give up the fight and simply merge with the Mountain West, smooth out their transition and use the Pac-12 money to prop up the rest of their athletic departments. “They just haven’t accepted that reality,” one high-ranking official from another conference said.

I saw a report from a Chris Vannini Twitter post (not on Twitter - so can’t verify) stating the NCAA BOD has voted to remove the P12/P2 from the autonomy conferences basically making them a G5 conference.

Ive not been able to find anything on this?

Anyone hearing anything?

i read a few days ago that Washington State's baseball team IS joining the Mountain West next spring instead of playing as an Independent. Not a big deal to us since Wyoming doesn't have baseball but still....

As far as I know, Oregon State's baseball team is still planning to go at it as an Independent.
I want CHAMPIONSHIPS not chicken poop! And we're getting chicken poop!!!!!!!!!!!
