Posted on another thread that I hoped whatever the issue was with Hoyland gets straightened out. Beginning with the Air Force game, it seemed to me that his leg strength was ebbing away. I do not recall his kickoffs as being as short, less accurate and with less hangtime before that game. it was also when he went into his FG swoon. Has been any sort of scuttlebutt about injury or other problems? Going into the season I thought he was a reason for optimism now I worry he is a liability.

I just hope he's not irreparably damaged.

Do we get a new punter? The one we have is terrible.

Yeah I don't know if we have a backup kicker already on the team or how good the backup might be, but I think at this point you have to at least find someone else to at least compete for the spot next year when he has missed like 7 of the last 8 fgs or something like that. He went from automatic at the beginning of the year, to pretty much an automatic miss for the second half of the yearbladerunnr wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 9:35 amNow. He missed every kick the second half of the season except for a 30 yarder. And a new punter is a given. I thought the current guy is a senior. He got the quietest cheer on senior day.

Guaranteed we get a new punter. Stewart is out of eligibility. Fawaz is graduating and moving on (recognized on senior day).

Part of this is coaching. Bohl kept lining him up for 50 yarders when his confidence was shot. We should have been going for it on 4th and only kicking manageable field goals. Hoyland was still very good on PATs.WyomingAgJ wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 9:51 amYeah I don't know if we have a backup kicker already on the team or how good the backup might be, but I think at this point you have to at least find someone else to at least compete for the spot next year when he has missed like 7 of the last 8 fgs or something like that. Yeah, we need a punter and - I think I agree - a kicker. Hoyland is broken. Bohl's stupid decisions to line him up for 50+ yard kicks (at dumb times) has only made it worse.bladerunnr wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 9:35 amNow. Hoyland arguably cost us a berth in the CCG with his missed kicks at AF

Backup kicker is Erik Sandvik out of Steamboat Springs. Not sure what his HS stats were. I'm confident Hoyland can get it figured out over the offseason.
I remember a few years ago there was a guy in Buffalo who hit a 61yd field goal. Everyone from Johnson County was talking about he's the next great kicker but I don't ever recall him on the roster after Rothe left.

There is a kid from Cheyenne South, Keelan Anderson, that is getting tons of attention including D1 offers. Not sure if Wyoming has offered him a scholarship but they are recruiting him.LanderPoke wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 10:25 amHoyland beat him out and he left I believe.ReecesRiver wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 9:59 am Backup kicker is Erik Sandvik out of Steamboat Springs. That is awesome, but how many did he miss, what were the stats. I would rather be lucky than good anyday as well...
Dear Karma,
I have a list of people you missed...

Luke Glassock out of Buffalo was named the starter over Hoyland a few seasons ago however he had an injury before the first game of the season and Hoyland moved up the depth chart and never relinquished it. Glassock graduated early and left the team after last seasonLanderPoke wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 10:25 amHoyland beat him out and he left I believe.ReecesRiver wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 9:59 am Backup kicker is Erik Sandvik out of Steamboat Springs. I think the kids the real deal. He hit another like 53 yarder in a game before this. The 61 yard is now the state record. He’ll garner a lot of D1 interest.
