Gavin Meyer was an ogre in the second half. Wow
Nice to see our secondary have some success defending the pass. They needed to have something good happen. Stone’s pick six was awesome

Siders and Brown were monsters too. Is it right that Bertagnole only had 1 tackle?LanderPoke wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 8:48 pm Gavin Meyer was an ogre in the second half. Wow

Godbout isn’t out for the year or anything is he? Didn’t hear anything so maybe not too bad? We going to need him

I like Siders a lot. Solid player. Omothoso has potential to be fantastic. He is strong and fast. Devine Harris is steady and rangy. I like our whole D line

Yea, our D-line is by far the strength of the team. Hopefully Godbout isn't out long and Bertagnole (came up limping a few times) can get healthy.
Secondary still needs work. I'm not sure if it's the scheme (coverage is weirdly soft compared to past defenses; more cushion/prevent than line jam...which is weird because I'm pretty sure we still play a hybrid Tampa 2/Cover 3, but our secondary positioning is wildly different than under Hazelton/Dickert) or if it's player development (we have talent and P5 transfers back there, so idk)....but considering the secondary is Sawvel's specialty, he and Boyd (our other backend coach) need to get it figured out and fast.
This was actually something WF and Minn fans mentioned when we hired him; he's kindof a "meh" coach who has done well and garnered his accolades with inherited defensive talent, but has had pretty big lapses in between. Which explains why our defense has massively dropped off, particularly with his specific units.

Hats off to the Boys, they started like they forgot they were even alive, but the D shut down New Mexico after the early deficit. Hoyland was great as usual, a blocked kick, a fumble recovery on a muffed punt, solid special teams. Welch was terrific tonight, Peasley with a few nice throws, all in all a tough it out win on the road and another conference win. I'll take it with no apologies. Need this bye.

By the way guys...
Hoyland (15 FGs) is on pace to shatter the two-time single-season FG record at Wyoming (20, set in 1996 and tied in 2001).
He's also at 42 career FGs. Cooper Rothe holds that record at 59. Hoyland has two seasons of eligibility left after this year, but is on pace to only need one of them to easily clear Rothe's record. But if he plays his 5th season, he'll likely set a record that won't be broken for a very, very long time.
Unfortunately, due in part to a lack of XP opportunities with our anemic offenses during his tenure, he'll need that extra year and some luck/help to eclipse Rothe's career points record of 342 (he's at 176).
All Hail Johnny Red Shoes!

So, uh, we were the straw that broke the camel's back. UNM's offensive coordinator got sacked (no pun intended) today. Lol.

New Mexico missed 2 short field goals and muffed a punt. Our offense has not scored more than 2 touchdowns in any game this year. There is no team on our schedule that's a guaranteed win. We are not a good football team. I still don't see this team winning more than 6 games this year. Boise and Fresno are guaranteed losses. Utah State is iffy, at best.

Yup...most likely outcome from here to the end of the season is a 4-4 finish in conference play...next most likely would be some version of 2-5 or 3-4.....and the least likely outcome is that we are representing the Mountain division in the title game.bladerunnr wrote: ↑Mon Oct 10, 2022 9:19 amNew Mexico missed 2 short field goals and muffed a punt.
