That is what I was thinking. Going to need some help.WestWYOPoke wrote: ↑Mon Nov 12, 2018 1:37 pm As of right now, there are 64 bowl eligible teams (5 in the MWC, Hawaii is not yet eligible, they need 1 more win), and there are 24 more teams that are either 1 win away or 2 wins against easily beatable opponents. If all of the win, that is 92 teams for 80 spots...need some of those 24 teams to lose.
Eight MWC teams could be bowl eligible

CBS projecting we become bowl eligible, but are one of 3 teams left out. If we win this week, we are still likely going to need help from other teams: https://www.cbssports.com/college-foo ... loss/amp/
What makes you think Wyoming fans would bring 20-30K (our entire stadium capacity) to watch a 6-6 Wyoming team play someone around the holidays with nothing on the line?

Weather( beautiful this time if year) Lots of alumni in the area. I agree, I may have overreacted with half the stadium, but we will bring more fans than most mid major programs.
We sold 3,200 tickets through our ticket office to watch an 8 win Wyoming team that had played in the MW championship game and had a lot more excitement around it during the year, for our first bowl trip in 5 years, against a very historic rival, in a pretty desirable local, 2 years ago.phxpoke wrote: ↑Sun Nov 18, 2018 3:32 pmWeather( beautiful this time if year) Lots of alumni in the area. SD is farther from the fan base and a lot more expensive. AZ would get a lot more than that. BYU was probably a detriment to salescalpoke25 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 18, 2018 8:01 pmWe sold 3,200 tickets through our ticket office to watch an 8 win Wyoming team that had played in the MW championship game and had a lot more excitement around it during the year, for our first bowl trip in 5 years, against a very historic rival, in a pretty desirable local, 2 years ago.phxpoke wrote: ↑Sun Nov 18, 2018 3:32 pmWeather( beautiful this time if year) Lots of alumni in the area. based on https://www.sbnation.com/college-footba ... redictions which has Wyoming left out:
5 win teams to root against:
SMU vs Tulsa (2-9)
Tulane vs Navy (3-8)
Southern Miss vs. UTEP (1-10)

I totally agree with both of your points. The fact that schools now fire coaches, even after seasons in which the team goes to a bowl tells you all you need to know about the bowl season now.ragtimejoe1 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 11:24 am Personally, I don't think any 6 win team, especially if 1 or more of those wins is FCS, deserves a bowl game. Us or anyone else.
With that said, if half of FBS goes to a bowl then I hope we do too. However, the point of the thread is a good one even if premature. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Frankly, I don't think any team that fails to finish in the top half of its conference or division should qualify for a bowl. I still want our Pokes to go to a bowl game if they qualify. Unfortunately, 1996 showed us the harsh result if there are so few bowls that a Top 25 team can get left out.
I’d be willing to bet we sell less than the Poinsettia bowl. Hope we get to find out.LanderPoke wrote: ↑Sun Nov 18, 2018 8:07 pmSD is farther from the fan base and a lot more expensive. I just want our team to get the extra practices together. We have enough young linemen (on both sides of the ball) that it'd make a pretty big difference if they got more time together.

That game was terrible from the scheduling standpoint as it was scheduled the Thursday before what most people took as a long Christmas weekend and many people already had plans and scheduled time off (that didn't include travelling to San Diego for a game that Thursday). That certainly was the case with me, my family and many friends.calpoke25 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 18, 2018 8:01 pmWe sold 3,200 tickets through our ticket office to watch an 8 win Wyoming team that had played in the MW championship game and had a lot more excitement around it during the year, for our first bowl trip in 5 years, against a very historic rival, in a pretty desirable local, 2 years ago.phxpoke wrote: ↑Sun Nov 18, 2018 3:32 pmWeather( beautiful this time if year) Lots of alumni in the area. The Arizona Bowl is scheduled favorably for a Saturday after Christmas on the 29th of December. Tucson is a relatively easy direct flight out of DIA with multiple options on United/Frontier/Southwest. I guarantee that game would draw more significantly more Poke fans than the Poinsettia Bowl did.

Update: after this weekend's games, there are 70 bowl eligible teams for 78 spots (I incorrectly said there are 80 spots last week). There are 23 5-win teams, of those 3 games have two 5-6 teams playing each other, so 1 will get eligible and 1 will go home, so there are basically 73 bowl eligible teams.
The question will be, how many of those other 17 teams get their 6th win and compete for the last 5 spots.
