COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

Austyn Carta-Samuels (Wyoming), Dey Juan Hemmings (SDSU) and Daryl Washington and Jeremy Kerley (TCU) are Mountain West Conference Players of the Week for games through Oct. 3. Carta-Samuels earns the Offensive Player of the Week honor, while Hemmings and Washington share the Defensive Player award and Kerley receives Special Teams recognition. This marks the second career player of the week honor for Carter-Samuels and Washington. It is the first for Hemmings and Kerley.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

AUSTYN CARTA-SAMUELS, WYOMING
Freshman, Quarterback, San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine College Prep
True freshman Austyn Carta-Samuels quarterbacked the Wyoming Cowboys to a 30-28 come-from-behind road victory at Florida Atlantic, highlighted by a 12-play, 91-yard game-winning touchdown drive with 4:29 remaining in the game. During that series, the San Jose, Calif., native rushed for 28 yards and passed for 18, accounting for half of Wyoming's 91 yards on the drive. Carta-Samuels completed 29-of-38 pass attempts (.763) for 223 yards, and added 69 rushing yards to finish with 292 yards of total offense. He led Wyoming on scoring drives of 80, 47, 59, 80 and 91 yards, as the Cowboys tied a season-best with 30 points against the Owls. Carta-Samuels connected with seven different Cowboy receivers on the day, and guided Wyoming to 421 yards of total offense.

DEFENSIVE CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DEY JUAN HEMMINGS, SAN DIEGO STATE
Junior, Defensive Back, San Bernardino, Calif./Rialto HS
Junior defensive back Dey Juan Hemmings recorded six tackles (five solo), one tackle for loss (-5 yards), a six-yard interception return and a fumble recovery for a touchdown in San Diego State's 34-17 win over New Mexico State. After registering the first tackle for loss and first interception of his career in the opening stanza, the San Bernardino, Calif., product helped erase a 7-0 SDSU deficit in the second quarter by picking up a fumble and returning it 14 yards for the first points of his career. Hemming's return for a score is the Aztecs' first fumble recovery for a TD since 2006.

DARYL WASHINGTON, TCU
Senior, Linebacker, Irving, Texas/Irving HS
Daryl Washington collected five tackles, two sacks (-13 yards) and a 23-yard interception return in No. 10 TCU's 39-14 win over SMU. The senior linebacker from Irving, Texas, helped key a TCU defensive effort that held SMU to minus-16 yards rushing. The Mustangs were limited to nine first downs for the game, including just three in the second half.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

JEREMY KERLEY, TCU
Junior, Kick Returner, Hutto, Texas/Hutto HS
Jeremy Kerley recorded 175 return yards and a touchdown in helping No. 10 TCU to a 39-14 win over SMU. The junior from Hutto, Texas, recorded 123 of those yards on four punt returns (30.8 ypr), including a 71-yard return for a touchdown. The 71-yard effort was TCU's first punt return for a touchdown since 2002, a stretch of 89 games that ranked as the seventh-longest in the nation. Kerley's 123 punt return yardage ranks as the third- and fifth-highest single-game tally in TCU and MWC history, respectively. His only kickoff return went for a season-long 52 yards.

Great for ACS, but man - must have been a down week for MWC offensive production. He wins the award without a single touchdown - I'm surprised on this one.
