Cowboys O Line 2014

Can you enlighten us new fans on the O line, it's a mainstay in the bohl gameplan, how are they shaping up, returners, projected starters. Thank you.

Exiting spring, some observers including media said the O-Line is a concern going into next fall. They were horrible for...well, years now really....and there were no miracles this past spring. Definitely a group that needs help. That's no revelation to anyone who follows Cowboy football....been like that for awhile now.

Here is the starting lineup for now...released by the staff.

LT - Nathan Leddige 6-5, 289 lbs SO
LG - Chase Roullier 6-4, 293 lbs SO
C - Rafe Kiely - 6-3, 299 lbs JR
RG - Jake Jones - 6-3, 295 lbs JR
RT - Connor Rains - 6-7, 318 lbs SR

Why is Roulier about 30lbs undersized for a guard? Truth be told, Rains is the only one solidly at the weight needed for a pro-set offense.

You know what would help? If I didn't read the depth chart wrong....I updated his height and weight.

Yeah, that's better! Still, they need to beef up a bit more.

I don't know how the starting group will play....but there doesn't seem to be a ton of depth on the line. Injuries need to be avoided.

Couple years to jell with 4 guys looks good. Expect great things in 2015 w 2 seniors & 2 juniors. Do they have mean streaks in them?

No mean streaks that I've seen.
Yeah....that will have to be all Bohl. That's not something anyone saw last season. They were okay against bad teams, but frankly dominated late in the season. Brett stood no chance at times.

So these are the same starting five as last year then?

Maybe for one game or another, but we went through several starting line-ups throughout the season due to various injuries and what not, with little difference in overall effectiveness.

That also had to do with DC's unwillingness to adapt, so every opposing defense knew exactly what to do, while our players were stuck doing what was proven to not work. I'm really hoping part of what made our offensive line look so terrible was DC rather than the actual athletes themselves.

I think you're on to something. We have some guys who can create a decent Oline...the key is coaching and development. Didn't DC require a large gap between each offensive linemen? Those gaps were a defensive lineman's dream.

Lines under Glenn were also bad. There was a time we had a bunch of linemen on scholarship trying to get anything that would resemble an offensive line.

For whatever reason, O line in Laramie has been a tough road to hoe.

Which is strange to me, because you'd think that'd be one of the easier position groups to recruit to Laramie (sorry if too stereotypical)

Wyoming has struck gold over the years recruiting WRs. Not many stud O-Line guys though....they're there, but not in abundance. 2000-2013 hasn't been kind though at any position....none of them have been consistent annually.

The most bizarre position group at Wyoming has been the secondary. Wyoming routinely puts S and CB's in the NFL, but almost never sports a secondary that anyone fears. Hell, most of the time they're being picked apart with ease.

2006 and 2007 being the exceptions though.

It is strange and I think it was odd that two completely different coaching staffs had the same problem. I'm hoping it was more coaching than anything. Perhaps Glenn being too loyal to cockhill and staff and DC not really caring about establishing the lines.????

I might not be remembering this correctly, but since our decline, it seems every unit has at least had a flash of being good except the O-line.

Honestly Glenn wasn't recruiting good enough OL period and Christensen coached way to much finesse. OL recruiting should be one of the easiest positions for Wyoming to recruit imo. This is where DC's neglecting of states like Nebraska or Kansas proved costly when it came to recruiting.
