Might as well kick this thread off now...
Wright AND Zollman get at-large bids to the tourney. This means Wyo will send 7 wrestlers to Nationals!!
While Sunday was disappointing, hopefully it provides some fuel to everyone for the next 10 days.
Here's to the biggest UW contingent I can remember in a long time (ever??) making some noise in St. Louis.

This is the most qualifiers I can recall (at least during the Suder and Branch eras).
The best part might be that only Brian Andrews is a senior. This team has a lot of upside.
I am going to make a bold prediction that Hastings and Buchanan become All-Americans. Buchanan's unrelenting style has a bit of Bryce Meredith flavor...could he make a Meredith run?
Also, Wright has the ability to be an All-American...if he puts it together and has his tournament.
Finally, unfortunately Fresno State is disbanding its program. I really hope Wyoming is trying to recruit RS-Freshman Kyle Parco. That dude has a motor, and, could be a guy competing for National Championships someday.

I want to say we had 8 one year. It was during LeBlanc-Onufer-Fonz. That year NCAAs could not have gone worse.

I think you might be talking about the year that LeBlanc didn't make weight. Looks like we had 6 qualifiers. https://billingsgazette.com/sports/coll ... fdc72.htmlLanderPoke wrote: ↑Wed Mar 10, 2021 9:05 am I want to say we had 8 one year. It was during LeBlanc-Onufer-Fonz. The year after that (senior season for Onufer and Leblanc) also had 6.OrediggerPoke wrote: ↑Wed Mar 10, 2021 11:56 amI think you might be talking about the year that LeBlanc didn't make weight. looks I was wrong. 7 making the NCAAs is a ton. We did well this year to get that many. Such a disapointment when Joe didn't make weight. The next year was terrible, Onufer didn't make AA and Joe didn't wrestle to his potential.OrediggerPoke wrote: ↑Wed Mar 10, 2021 11:59 amThe year after that (senior season for Onufer and Leblanc) also had 6.OrediggerPoke wrote: ↑Wed Mar 10, 2021 11:56 amI think you might be talking about the year that LeBlanc didn't make weight. Pokes wrestled pretty well. Disappointing for Tate, but at the same time Jacob Wright pulled the upset. Have to bring your very, very best each match at the NCAAs. Win some, lose some.
Hope we can pull some upsets in round 2

poop. Andrews might be out of the tournament. I believe a DQ (even for stalling) results in a forfeit of the tournament for the wrestler. Anyone know for sure?

Day 1 Recap
Zollman 0-2 and is eliminated.
Moody, Hastings, Samuelson, Andrews all go 1-1 and will compete in wrestlebacks. Andrews might be eliminated because he was DQed for stalling in his second match (not sure of the NCAAT rule on DQs).
Buchanan the 8 seed and Wright the 23rd seed both go 2-0 and will wrestle in the quarterfinals! Both have really tough matches. Wright faces 2 seed stud Hidlay from NCST. Buchanan will face 1 seed and undefeated Amine from Michigan. Amine is very beatable for Buchanan IMO. We will see.

Quarters and second round wrestlebacks coming up on ESPNU and ESPN3. Let’s go pokes! If Wright and Buchanan can pull the upsets, they guarantee a top 6 finish.

He wrestles like Meredith. He doesn’t care who his opponent is, he is going to let it fly.LanderPoke wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 10:13 pm Buchanan is a horse. So strong. He’s wrestling very well right now
