Our Cowboy Wrestling team will be competing on Thursday in Reno. Teams include Oklahoma State (starters), Arizona State (I am not sure if they are taking their starters), Fresno State, Cal State Bakerfield. Wyoming could finish Top 3 which would be big for this team.

125 Verner - is a really aggressive wrestler and can beat anyone he matches up against. I have watched him go down 6-0 early and come roaring back, so hopefully he is learning.

133 Bridges - is a returning champ and will have to go through Fix from OSU. He could use a dominant tournament

141 Turner - Been up and down but is a good wrestler and excited to see him make a run in this tourney.

149 Jansen - Has a hard time on bottom, but Branch is forcing him to compete from there.

157 Kruger - Most exciting wrestler on the roster. Can get a pin at any time in a match. Last year he pinned a 197 and beat a 184 while weighing in at 157.

165 Ashworth - Came to Wyoming as a 149 but is a really tough wrestler. I think he is the best 165 in the Big XII. Really can be a AA this year.

174 Hastings - Actaully placed 6th last year at 165. He is a really good wrestler and Flowrestling is high on him. If he can finish some matches he will be a force.

184 Looney - Looks good wrestling and when is on can beat a lot of people

197 Davidson - Look out in the Big XII he is a fun wrestler to watch and is never out of a match.

HWT Andrews - Wyomign has found their answer at HWT. Can make a run and is a quick HWT. He waited his game against NDSU and had a quick take down in SV.

Wyoming only returns three starters from last years team. Ashworth is the only Senior, followed by two juniors, and the rest Freshmen and Sophmores

UPDATE:

Ashworth and Bridges will be staying home for this tournament to give the younger guys a chance. Not sure who is going to wrestle at 165 for Wyoming, but 174 will be Randles, Hastings, and Lombardo. I would guess that Hastings wrestles at 165 next year with randles at 174.

Mark McConnell from Lander will wrestle at 133 for Wyoming.

Turner wins the tournament and gets outstanding wrestler with a big upset over Brock at Oklahoma St. Awesome job. Also had Davidson and Andrews in the finals. Ended up in third as a team, so a nice showing without bridges and ashworth there.

Don’t worry about the team standings too much.

Verner took 5th
Kruger 4th
Samuelson 3rd (True Freshmen at 184)
Randles beat Hastings who was ranked 8-1
Loveless beat Jensen. Jensen has been the starter at 149.
Turner was very confident in his matches. Guys looked gassed at the end of the day. 6 matches can take a toll.
Wyoming only had 12 wrestlers assigned to the team. In comparison Oklahoma State had 20, while ODU and MSU had 18.
Rogers at 165 for OSU murdered the field and Ashworth beat him in Stillwater.
