Cowboy Wrestling 2018-2019 (Notes, Quotes, Videos)
This team is probably the 2nd team in the Big XII. The fans really need to support them as the 27-6 does not reflect the effort the team wrestled with today. Some really close matches that could have swung either way.
Ashworth put the Big 12 on notice today. He is probably a top 5 165 wrestler.

Against probably the 2nd best dual team in the country, regardless of where they finish in the tournament, too. I haven't looked the last couple weeks, but I think OSU had 8 or 9 top 20 guys and about 5 of those top 10 (on Flo anyway)Vapoke wrote: ↑Sun Nov 25, 2018 5:57 pm This team is probably the 2nd team in the Big XII. You guys are right. Some really close matches against an OSU squad filled with many top-20 guys. Here are the tweets:wyokoke wrote: ↑Sun Nov 25, 2018 7:28 pmAgainst probably the 2nd best dual team in the country, regardless of where they finish in the tournament, too. Right now, UVU appears to be the 2nd best team in the Big 12 and I would rank Northern Iowa, North Dakota State and South Dakota State up there as well. The Big 12 is a good conference and 2nd place is wide open. This Wyoming team is relatively young and competing well but there is still a lot of room for improvement and they will have to improve before the Big 12s to make some noise. What is pretty cool is that 3 Wyoming HS wrestlers are regulars in the lineup and competing well.Vapoke wrote: ↑Sun Nov 25, 2018 5:57 pm This team is probably the 2nd team in the Big XII. I would say Northen Iowa is better, but Utah Valley has just been a good tournament team thus far. This weekend may go farther in helping the Cowboys if they can perform well in the tourney setting. Wyoming has taken on two tough duals and was competitive. South Dakota State (minus Gross) is on a huge down year. They lost to Oklahoma State at home 45-6 and their only 6 points came against an injury default. The lost 4 matches via pin and another two to tech fall.
Wyoming needs some help at 149, and to have Dewey and Bridges come on strong because the rest of the team is really starting to come together early.

I hope Bridges isn't the next Tyler Cox. Set the world on fire as a freshmen only to regress.
Bridges wrestled fix really well. Fix never took down Bridges, but Bridges also couldn't muster an escape. Hopefully we see Bridges turn it on this weekend against a loaded 133 class.
Verner checks in at #20 at 125 and Ashworth moves up to #6.
Hayden Hastings has the ability to beat anyone in the conference. I wonder if the coaches will look at Zollman or Greenwood to move up to 149. Jaron started really hot, but has kind of fallen off. Branch did say he is not afraid to change the line-up

TOM’s College Wrestler of the Week – Nov. 26th, 2018
This week’s College Wrestler of the Week, Branson Ashworth earns the honor after picking up a dual meet victory over Oklahoma State’s two-time All-American Chandler Rogers. Currently ranked ninth in the nation, Ashworth was one of two Wyoming wrestlers to win a match in the battle of the Cowboys. In a scoreless second period, Branson rode out Rogers, putting himself in great position to add a riding time point. He quickly escaped in the third period, which would ensure the riding time point. As the clock ticked down in the final stanza, Ashworth added to his lead with a takedown off of a reshot. After adding the riding time point, the Wyoming grappler would go on to win 4-1.

Huh? UVU dualed #12 Nebraska closer than the Pokes (15-19) and beat then #15 Rutgers 24-14. They also wrestled a really good and improved #11 dual ranked Wisconsin team close falling 17-22. I would say UVU has done pretty darn well in duals also beating 5 other unranked teams.
