To the best of my knowledge Wyoming has not retired ANY football numbers and only one basketball number, #4 Kenny Sailors.

Speaking of former greats. Interesting story, one of my buddies was in Brea, CA for work and was at happy hour after meetings and found out his bosses girl friend works with Eric Leckner. Pretty cool I thought.

I believe it's true that no number has officially been retired for Wyoming football. However, I'm under the impression that Number 10 has not been issued since the death of Señor Quarterback Ed Synakowski in 1970. Just prior to the 1970 season, Synakowski drowned in a fishing accident in Lake Hattie.

When I told my friend about the info you guys gave me, he was amazed. Why hasn't UW officially retired any numbers aside from Kenny Sailors?

Some programs just don't retire jersey numbers.....and it makes sense when you have 99 numbers to divvy up among 85 scholarship players plus walk-ons.
I said it sucks.....to be.....a CSU Ram! #GoWyo

I think Montana has only retired one or two numbers, one being Dave Dickensen's #15.joshvanklomp wrote: ↑Fri May 26, 2017 10:47 pm Some programs just don't retire jersey numbers.....and it makes sense when you have 99 numbers to divvy up among 85 scholarship players plus walk-ons.

A source in the UW AD told me that both Number 10 and Number 56 are not available for issue. Number 10 belonged to Ed Synakowski who drowned in a boating accident in 1970. Number 56 belonged to Dave Schutt, a linebacker in the Coach Roach era. He died in 1988 after being struck by a train just off 1st Street and Ivinson in Laramie.

I didn't ask about Number 12 specifically. I just asked about the numbers that they aren't issuing. However, you make a valid point.poke_addict wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2017 1:26 pmDid they say why they still issue number 12?The Virginian wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2017 1:18 pm A source in the UW AD told me that both Number 10 and Number 56 are not available for issue. So did a little bit of digging. I remember the team honoring Ruben as a different player each week wore the #12 jersey. The year following DC asked puletasi who was Rubens roommate and best friend on the team if he wanted to wear Rubens number for the remainder of his career. Sonny took the offer and switched his number to 12.The Virginian wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2017 10:03 pmI didn't ask about Number 12 specifically. I just asked about the numbers that they aren't issuing.
