Re: NCAA Wrestling Championships

I said it earlier, (before brackets were out) this could be a tough year for the Pokes at the NCAAs. Now that brackets are out, it does look rough. However I will never write off any of these guys. 125 lbs. is stacked all the way through but I think Cox comes through for his 2nd AA. Stroh got terrib...

Re: WyoNation.com exclusive interview with Mark Branch

Great interview with a great coach! Coach Branch had some interesting points. He won't tolerate mediocrity and wants kids to EXPECT great things. He wants (and gets) these kids to be winners on the mat, classroom and in life...criminals and outlaws not wanted. Pretty good way to build a program. Bes...

Re: Poke Wrestling Today

Cox (125 lbs.) just won his 2nd round match 6-5. Looked a little lethargic on his feet but was a BEAST on top!

Any word? Little bit nervous, my son and parents were going to be on that stretch today.

Poke Wrestling Today

Wrestling team is battling for spots in the NCAA championships today. It looks like all but McCulley, Friseth, and Stroh will have to win trny. (or hope for a wildcard) to qualify. Good luck and wrestle "Cowboy Tough!"

Re: Is this guy on Branch's radar? If not, he should be.

Great story. I am not sure what Coach Branch is hunting for as far as recruiting goes but good ones at either end of the weight spectrum are always hard to find. Sounds like this young man would fit in fine in Laramie. Branch has done a great job of getting home state talent which is another reason ...

Re: Wyoming 15th in wrestling attendance

Wrestling is Wyoming's best athletic program hands down in every measurable way. What is also encouraging is that attendance was up at almost all of the top 15 schools over last year. Absolutely correct. It appears wrestling may finally be recovering from the ravages of Title IX. Nationally, number...

Re: Conference titles...

I guess I judge athletics differently than some others on here. I believe that there is more to amateur and college athletics than just if they bring in money. If that is the only criteria that you use to judge if a sport "matters" than McPeachy is correct. The point I was trying to make i...

Re: Conference titles...

I agree, Branch does deserve a raise. Not going to get into the Burman thing but he hit a home run when he hired Branch. I have not seen the books but doubt that wrestling at Wyo. is a revenue producing sport although it could get there. In fact, outside of a very few schools, (Oklahoma State, Iowa,...

Conference titles...

With all the drama and bad news going on with Wyo athletics right now I thought some of you might be interested in some GOOD news. These guys aren't worried about who's hurt, who's been suspended etc. they are just out winning conference titles! http://www.gowyo.com/sports/m-wrestl/spec-rel/022314aa...

Re: NDSU V WYO

Big win for the Pokes against a very quality opponent. I have always been impressed with Coach Branch and his staff and this reinforces my beliefs. Boys were struggling a little earlier but looks like the ship has been righted and they are peaking at just the right time. This team is VERY young and ...

Re: It looks like Laramie population 50,000 is quite feasibl

I can only speak from my personal experience but some of you described my situation perfectly. After graduating from UW I would have loved to stay in WY. However there just weren't any jobs. The same held true for a majority of my friends. Some were WY natives and some were not, but ALL would have s...

Re: The Problem With College Wrestling

My problem with college wrestling is its boring and I don't care. Now if they make it like WWE and TNA I am in :thumb: That is the problem and link this post was originally addressing (until McPeachy farted out his mouth.). Many times in a wrestling match a lot is going on but if you are unfamiliar...

McPeachy wrote: Wrestling: 2 dudes ball and ass grabbin' in their PJ's. May as well be golf. Step into that wrestling room and tell the boys that. Better yet, tell it to Coach Branch or Coach Pendleton. See how fast your lungs get ripped out and they are stuffing them down your throat. Wrestling is ...

Re: Big Win Last Night!!! Way to go Pokes!

As we predicted, Branch has them going in the right direction after the SDSU loss. Really proud of Pfeiffer. Undersized in all matches and out talented in most, he continues to out-heart a lot of opponents. Also some good work on top. Starting to pick up some pins and getting back points. Still expe...

Definitely a great win. With a team this young, there is still going to be some inconsistencies but things are moving in the right direction. I agree that Branch will have them ready and get the most possible out of this team.

OredIgger I agree completely. Pokes are young but that's no excuse. Some of the boys just haven't developed like expected and very inconsistent. I have a great deal of respect for Coach Branch and staff though. They will get things figured out and the ship in order.

Re: End of the Okie Blanchard Stadium Era

I would agree, it's tough seeing Okie leave, but like us all there is a time. I saw my first game there in the fall of 1970 (I think!) and played there several times in the late '70s. At that time it was a nice field and (seemed like) a large stadium. However the locker rooms for the visiting team w...
