When my father was going to grad school at UW, we lived right across the street from Rick and his first wife, Patti. When all us little kids would be playing football outside we would go over and ask if Rick would come out and play with us. He always did. When Patti would answer we would ask her if ...

Re: McNeese State is Ranked 6th in FCS

Does any team in America pull more games out of their A$$ than NU? That catch/run today was just a great effort. However NU also pulled off "The Catch" against Missouri that allowed them to go on to win a national title. Last year they beat NWestern on a Hail Mary pass, drives me nuts! Maybe I am ju...

Re: Wrestler wins national title, AD gets $18000

Or they do dual sport, like Dusty Hoffschneider did. Obviously this can be done, you provided a great example. However it is extremely rare. Football coaches don't want their scholarship kids taking a chance at injury or doing anything but training for football. As far as I could find out, not a si...

Re: Question about scholarships?

No. Football and basketball(maybe others, don't know) have to be full scholarships. This is exactly right. In football and basketball (not sure on all the others) you are either on a full scholarship or nothing. Some sports (wrestling) can divide the scholarship money. Other than those three, I am ...

Re: NCAA Wrestling Championships

Zach beard will be in at 174 and be ready to watch a talented young guy wrestle. It would be nice to have an actual hwt for the whole season for once. I lo end helbig and Pfeiffer does OK, but they won't ever be able to qualify. Harms may if he could stay healthy. When he finally came back after th...

This whole tournament has been crazy! So much fun to watch and the skill level of these guys is incredible. I am really looking forward to the Pokes season next year.

Re: NCAA Wrestling Championships

Disappointing tournament-yes, unexpected-no (see my first post, this thread.). I will say I was hopeful for more wins then this. Look for the Pokes to come back very strong next year. This will absolutely eat at Coach Branch for quite some time and it will get remedied. Very young and inexperienced ...

Re: NCAA Wrestling Championships

Tough day for sure but not totally unexpected. Looks like Stroh has good shot at winning his next two. Cox really needed to win that last match. The guys are going to pick up some wins but its going to be real hard for any of them to make it to the stand this year.

Re: NCAA Wrestling Championships

What is the outlook for WYO next season? Top 15-20 ranking possible? How many potential NCAA qualifiers next year? Things look very good for next year, especially looking at how young they are this year. Top 20 probable, top 10 definitely possible. Depending how wts. Shake out I would say 6-7 quali...

Re: NCAA Wrestling Championships

I said it earlier, (before brackets were out) this could be a tough year for the Pokes at the NCAAs. Now that brackets are out, it does look rough. However I will never write off any of these guys. 125 lbs. is stacked all the way through but I think Cox comes through for his 2nd AA. Stroh got terrib...

Re: WyoNation.com exclusive interview with Mark Branch

Great interview with a great coach! Coach Branch had some interesting points. He won't tolerate mediocrity and wants kids to EXPECT great things. He wants (and gets) these kids to be winners on the mat, classroom and in life...criminals and outlaws not wanted. Pretty good way to build a program. Bes...

Cox (125 lbs.) just won his 2nd round match 6-5. Looked a little lethargic on his feet but was a BEAST on top!

Poke Wrestling Today

Wrestling team is battling for spots in the NCAA championships today. It looks like all but McCulley, Friseth, and Stroh will have to win trny. (or hope for a wildcard) to qualify. Good luck and wrestle "Cowboy Tough!"

Re: Is this guy on Branch's radar? If not, he should be.

Great story. I am not sure what Coach Branch is hunting for as far as recruiting goes but good ones at either end of the weight spectrum are always hard to find. Sounds like this young man would fit in fine in Laramie. Branch has done a great job of getting home state talent which is another reason ...

Re: Wyoming 15th in wrestling attendance

Wrestling is Wyoming's best athletic program hands down in every measurable way. What is also encouraging is that attendance was up at almost all of the top 15 schools over last year. Absolutely correct. It appears wrestling may finally be recovering from the ravages of Title IX. Nationally, number...

Re: Conference titles...

I guess I judge athletics differently than some others on here. I believe that there is more to amateur and college athletics than just if they bring in money. If that is the only criteria that you use to judge if a sport "matters" than McPeachy is correct. The point I was trying to make in my origi...
