As we approach National Signing Day, the Wyoming coaching staff looks to fill their last few scholarships during the coming weeks. \u00a0They reach this point after picking up four more verbal commitments, bringing the count to 22 known verbals.<\/p>\n
The Cowboys added Chicago (IL) St. Rita punter Tim Zaleski, North Bend (OR) North Bend athlete Trey Woods, Oak Park (IL) Forest River wide receiver Jared Scott and Creston (OH) Norwayne tight end Nate Weinman.<\/p>\n
Zaleski committed to the Cowboys on January 7th, Woods on the 14th, Scott on the 24th and Weinman also on the 24th.<\/p>\n
The 6’5″, 215-pound Chicago special teamer was also a very quality wide receiver. \u00a0He lead the Mustangs in receiving with 39 receptions for 720 yards and 10 touchdowns. \u00a0As a punter, Zaleski averaged 38.3 yards per punt on the season.<\/p>\n
He was offered by Wyoming back on November 14th and selected the Pokes over offers from Air Force, Army, Northern Illinois and Indian State. \u00a0His recruiter was likely safeties coach Curt Mallory.<\/p>\n
Zaleski was rated as a 2-star prospect by Rivals.<\/p>\n
Trey Woods, a 6’3″, 205-pound athlete out of North Bend, Oregon is a interesting prospect for the Cowboys as he could play numerous positions. \u00a0He played running back and free\u00a0safety on a 11-0 State Champion team this past season but looks to either play defensive end or wide receiver most likely in Laramie.<\/p>\n
Woods selected Wyoming over preferred walk-on offers from Oregon and Oregon State. \u00a0His lead recruiter was defensive line coach Pete Kaligis.<\/p>\n
“I have high respect for the (Wyoming) coaches, seeing as they have shown so much love and support to me as an athlete,” said the Bulldog superstar.<\/p>\n
He was offered back on May 26th and officially visited Laramie on the weekend of the 20th of January.<\/p>\n
What was it that led Woods to pick the Cowboys?<\/p>\n
“I decided on the University of Wyoming because of how the coaches treated me. \u00a0They vigorously reached out to me and continued to show me that they were interested,” said Woods.<\/p>\n
Woods is ranked as a 2-star prospect by Scout, 247 Sports and Rivals.<\/p>\n
The 6’7″, 240-pound tight end Nathan Weinman, was offered back in mid October by the coaching staff. \u00a0He visited Laramie back on December 9th. \u00a0His lead recruiter was running back coach Mike Bath.<\/p>\n
When it came to picking the Cowboys and his thoughts on his campus visit?<\/p>\n
“It was the best decision for me all around opportunity wise. \u00a0It was the best campus I’ve seen by far and Laramie was just as big as my home town. \u00a0So it was definitely relatable,” said Ohio tight end.<\/p>\n
“All of the staff members are great and they treated me like family. \u00a0I love coach Bath and that he is also from Ohio.”<\/p>\n
Weinman was offered by Stony Brook, Saint Francis, Findlay, and Ashland Universities. \u00a0He also was recruited by Toledo and Eastern Michigan.<\/p>\n
He was rated as a 2-star prospects by Rivals.<\/p>\n
Lastly we find our sixth Illinois verbal commitment in 6’6″, 215-pound wide receiver Jared Scott. \u00a0Scott joins his Huskies teammate Keyon Blakenbaker in this 2017 recruiting class.<\/p>\n
Scott was offered on January 14th and visited Laramie on the weekend of January 20th.<\/p>\n
“Laramie really surprised me. I didn’t know much of anything about the town, or the school going in. But I left there loving the people of Laramie. \u00a0It’s a pretty city and I’m sure it looks even better in the spring\/summer,” said Scott.<\/p>\n
His lead recruiter was a combination of now Indiana State head coach Curt Mallory and wide receiver position coach Michael Grant.<\/p>\n
“I was recruited by a combination of Coach Mallory and Coach Grant, my position coach. \u00a0He actually got a chance to see a game of mine back during the season. But I love the coaching staff. \u00a0Coach Bohl is a great guy with a great system. \u00a0I could really tell from being with some of the players that they have bought in.”<\/p>\n
“Each of the coaches made a point to talk to me and make me feel welcomed on my visit there. \u00a0I enjoyed all of them and was really comfortable with the choice of joining their program for the next 4-5 years. \u00a0The program is on the rise and I couldn’t be any more excited to join the family,” \u00a0said the big Illinois receiver.<\/p>\n
“I want to give a special shoutout to Coach Gordie Haug, he’s the man!”<\/p>\n
Scott was\u00a0offered by Western Illinois, Western Michigan, and Ball State.<\/p>\n
He was rated as a 3-star prospect by 247 Sports and Scout. \u00a0Rivals gave him a 2-star rating.<\/p>\n
