The 2020 Cowboy football season is no longer in doubt. With the Mountain West officially releasing the 2020 football schedule the Pokes will play this fall. The Mountain West football season has been in doubt most of the summer as the Covid-19 outbreak has spread across the United States and the greater Earth. With a plan in place to safely hold competitions and taking a wait and see approach the conference now feels comfortable in playing an eight game schedule. The schedule will run October 24th through mid-December. The Mountain West championship game will be played Saturday, December 19th.
Last night five Cowboys opted out of the season due to health concerns of the current pandemic. Solomon Byrd, Claude Cole, Mario Mora, Rome Weber, and Davon Wells-Ross will sit this season out, additionally Alonzo Velasquez was lost for the season during a practice walk-through. Two Cowboys have retired from the team, long snapper Jesse Hooper (graduation) and Gavin Rush (injuries). Rush will remain close by, taking an internship with the strength and conditioning team.
The Cowboys will open up the season at Nevada and close the season at home vs Boise State. The Border War will be played on November 7th. Wyoming athletics has announced that as of now 7000 fans will be allowed to attend football games. Those in attendance will include some season ticket holder, player families, and UW students. Tickets will be made available on a game by game basis. Ticket sales should start in the coming week.
