The Wyoming Cowboys will take on the Georgia State Panthers in the Arizona Bowl on December 31st. The Cowboys are playing in their first bowl game since 2017 when Wyoming defeated Central Michigan in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. The Georgia State Panthers are coming to Tucson from the Sun Belt Conference. This will be the first appearance in the Arizona Bowl for Wyoming and Georgia State. The Panthers are making the rare trip out West for this game, their other trips to the West were games vs Idaho and Washington.
The Panthers are based in Atlanta. Georgia State is a relative newcomer to the FBS ranks, as well as college football. The Panthers started their football program in 2011 and played as an FCS Independent, before moving to the Colonial Athletic Association for one season before transitioning to the Sun Belt Conference. Their first season in FBS resulted in a 0-12 record and have only gone up from there. This season represents a tie for their best season since starting the football program, a 7-5 record. The Panthers were 4-4 in Sun Belt Conference play this season.
The Panthers are coached by Shawn Elliot. Elliot was a defensive end for Appalachian State and started his coaching career with the Mountaineers as well. Elliot was an offensive line coach at South Carolina before coming to Atlanta and the Panthers. He is 17-25 as a head coach.

The Panthers are led on offense by running back Tre Barnett. He rushed for 1389 yards and twelve touchdowns. Quarterback Dan Ellington rushed for 598 yards and five scores. Ellington was 214/329 and 2291 yards with 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Cornelius McCoy led all receivers this season with 65 receptions and 679 yards and four touchdowns.
Defensively Georgia State is led by linebacker Trajan Stephens-McQueen. Stephens-McQueen has 100 total tackles on the season, 55 of them coming the solo route. He also led the team in interceptions with two. Hardrick Willis led the Panthers with 4.5 sacks on the season.
