The Wyoming Cowboys started their day with a somber note as it was announced early this morning that former head coach Joe Tiller had died in his home of Buffalo, Wyoming. War Memorial Stadium observed a moment of silence for Coach before the game. Tiller was the coach of the Cowboys from 1991 to 1996. He also served as an offensive coordinator in 1987 and 1988. Tiller finished his coaching career at Purdue.

Once the Cowboys took the field the fireworks were on. After a fairly uneventful first quarter the Cowboy offense exploded for 31 second quarter points to give themselves a lead they didn’t have to look back on. CJ Johnson had a redemption of sorts this week. He’s had a tough start to the season but came back today with a pair of touchdown catches from Josh Allen. Allen completed passes to nine different receivers on the day.

The Cowboy defense was outstanding today, recording 11 tackles for loss and four sacks, making for a long day for the Bobcats from Texas State. The Cowboys fended off a few opportunities from Texas State threatening in the redzone and mostly held them scoreless when they got close.

Onto the three stars of this game..

Third Star – Youhanna Ghaifan

The big man up front recorded probably the best game of his young Cowboy career by living in the back field all day long. Ghaifan recorded nine total tackles, six of them solo. He had two sacks and four tackles for loss to lead the Cowboy defense against this dynamic Bobcat offense. Ghaifan also forced a fumble while being a menace as well.

Second Star – Rico Gafford

Rico Gafford continued his terrific play in the secondary today. Gafford recorded two tackles and had one interception. His interception was a good interception because he returned it 37 yards for a touchdown. Gaffords touchdown put the Cowboys up 14-3 and at that point the Cowboys never had to look back on their way to victory.

First Star – Tyler Hall

Tyler Hall continued to be a star on special teams by returning another kickoff for a touchdown. This one went for 95 yards. Last week against Hawaii Hall had a kick return touchdown as well. Hall is a sophomore cornerback from Hawthorne, CA.
