With 12 practices down and just three more practices left to go, the Wyoming Cowboys are in the final stages of spring football for 2017. The spring has been workman like so far with the Pokes having good and bad days in the opinion of Coach Craig Bohl. The overall trajectory of spring ball is a positive one though as the Cowboys break in a new defensive coordinator and look for play-makers at the running back and wide receiver positions.

The team is coming off a 100 plus play scrimmage this past weekend where Bohl mentioned positive contributions from QB Josh Allen, QB Nick Smith, RB Milo Hall, S Alijah Halliburton and DL Youhanna Ghaifan. I will bring you some analysis on these players and more later in the week as I outline what to look for Saturday during the Spring Game.

As far as the plan for the final three practices? “The last week we’re going to continue to evaluate, but we’ll integrate some schemes that we’re probably going to need to see that we have not encountered – – – some things our opposition does,” said Craig Bohl.

The Spring game kicks off at 2pm MT on Saturday and is open to the public. For a little bit of fun, an Alumni Flag Football Game at 11:30am MT will be played at War Memorial Stadium on Saturday as well. It will be interesting to see what Pokes from the past will take part in that game. We here at WyoNation will try to get a list of players who will be participating in that event.

UPDATE – Players who are expected to take part in the alumni flag football game include: J.J. Raterink, Mike Purcell, Cory Talich, Jim “Lefty” Cole, Randy Welniak and Casey Bramlet.
