The University of Wyoming and the Mountain West Conference have announced the 2017 Wyoming Cowboy football schedule. The Pokes will be looking to repeat as Mountain Division Champions and get back to the Mountain West Title game after a successful 2016 season. The schedule features 12 games with seven at home and five on the road. Four of those home games take place in September as the Cowboys will host four consecutive games at War Memorial Stadium.
Here are some of the dates Wyoming fans should circle on their calendar:
September 2nd @ Iowa
The Cowboys open the 2017 season in Iowa City versus the Hawkeyes of the Big 10. Iowa is coming off an 8-5 record and a loss to Florida in the Outback Bowl. This will be Wyoming’s third meeting against Iowa and the Cowboys have a 0-2 record with losses coming in 1987 (Holiday Bowl) and 1953 (a loss in Iowa City).
September 9th Gardner-Webb
FCS outfit Gardner-Webb comes to Laramie for the home opener. The Bulldogs went 5-6 last season in the Big South and this will be the first meeting between the schools.
September 16th Oregon
Wyoming will host the Oregon Ducks and new head coach Willie Taggart. The Ducks are coming off a very poor 4-8 season and this could be a winnable home game for the Cowboys. These will be the second football game between the two schools with Wyoming dropping a game 48-14 in Eugene during the 2014 season.
November 4th Colorado State
The Gem City will host the 109th edition of the Border War in early November. The Cowboys will be looking to win the Bronze Boot for a second time in a row in a traveling trophy series the Brown & Gold now lead 25 to 24.
