As I write this one season for Wyoming athletics has ended and another is about to begin. The basketball team was defeated 75-67 in overtime by Western Michigan in the second round of the CBI putting an end to this year’s basketball campaign. This season started with much promise but the Cowboys struggled in Mountain West play due to suspension, injuries and lack of depth. The Pokes finish the season with a 20-14 record which is no small feat considering the rebuilding Shyatt had to do after taking over a program that was 10-21 just two seasons ago. Shyatt now has a 60-35 record at Wyoming which bodes well for the future as he really hasn’t had time to build the type of program that he want’s yet in his two stints here. Next week while the paint is still fresh on the season, WyoNation Blog will have a player by player breakdown on the season that was.

The basketball season may be over but football will now be in the picture as today is the first day of spring football. You can read the official UW athletics press release HERE to see the practice schedule as well as an updated spring roster. There have been some comings and goings (most notably LB Todd Knight and DE Mark Willis who are graduating and choosing not to use their final year of eligibility) but nothing that should have too big on an impact on the team come fall. For a good preview of spring ball take a read of this piece by Zack Creglow in the Casper Star-Tribune.
