This season as a whole may be a complete disaster but it was nice to have something to cheer about on Saturday as the Pokes beat Colorado State 45 to 31 to retain the Bronze Boot for a fourth straight year. The offense was clicking and the sheep defense was nowhere to be found on third down with the Cowboys converting 15 out of 20 often with 5 yards or more to go. The defense still has major flaws but they looked motivated and were active around the ball forcing three turnovers. It is too bad that it takes a rivalry game to get this type of effort out of this team but perhaps this Border War win will give the team some momentum as Wyoming readies for the final three games of the season.

One of my favorite sayings is Wyoming could have a successful 2-10 season if those two wins were against BYU and CSU. With BYU now the golden child of ESPN midweek games only CSU is left from that theory and I think no matter what happens the rest of the year, this season will leave a bad taste in my mouth. It is great to know that although we may be bad we are not nearly as bad as CSU and that will have to do for now. Let’s hope the Pokes can play well the last three games and build some positivity in the program heading into winter conditioning and spring ball. The future of Dave Christensen could depend on it as I don’t think the Howdy Doody storm clouds have passed yet. Now make sure you get your tickets to the home basketball game versus the sheep on March 6th so you can see the boot paraded around at halftime in all its glory.
