The Wyoming Cowboys marched into Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium on Saturday night looking for a pick-me-up. The Pokes were coming off of a devastating week where they saw their freshman comrade, Ruben Narcisse, die in an automobile accident in Colorado. Along with him were three injured teammates. The Pokes were looking to regroup against the #5 Texas Longhorns. The Longhorns put on a nice pre-game tribute to Narcisse, featuring his picture on the video board, as well as the Texas band playing Ragtime Cowboy Joe.

As the opening kickoff got underway the Pokes held strong for a majority of the game, a game where they were 28 point underdogs. After the 1st quarter the score was 3-0 Longhorns as the two teams battled back and forth for field position. The second half saw the Cowboys take the lead as sophomore QB Austyn Carta-Samuels scampered for a touchdown run, the Pokes led 7-6. Much like the 2009 game, the touchdown ignited the Texas offense as they busted for two touchdowns. The Cowboy defense held firm until the final :54 seconds when the Longhorns put in a garbage time TD, going up 34-7. The overmatched Cowboys didn’t turn the ball over and committed very few penalties.

The Cowboys will next face the #3 Boise State Broncos in Laramie. The game should be a sell-out later this week with less than 700 tickets remaining for the game. The Broncos are coming off of a bye week after they defeated Virginia Tech on the road. The last time the Pokes and Broncos played was 2007 when the Broncos defeated the Cowboys 24-14 in Boise.

Go Pokes!
